after cracking a joke about ben trying to slow down for her to maintain a drink-for-drink with him, she leaned over the bar they were stationed at and tried to wave the bartender down. she didn't want ben holding himself back for the likes of her, and since she was probably a little bit more of a lightweight than he'd be expecting, she figured that he had no idea he was already falling behind on her intoxicated level- not that she'd asked him out for the night to get drunk, but he didn't seem to mind, so she didn't either. unknowingly, as she leaned forward to order the singer's next drink, one of the men sitting a few seats down from her passed a pill to his friend, who then slipped it into her drink nonchalantly. by the time she had waved down the bartender and ordered another drink, they changed location, waiting for her to feel the affects.
"okay," she started about half an hour after the pill was dropped in her drink, "i'm gonna go to the ladies room. and when i get back, i'll prove to you that my dancing skills are more than likely crap compared to what you've.. danced with." unable to keep herself from laughing at her slight pause, she shifted out of her stool and started towards the bathrooms. her vision started to get a little blurry, but she dismissed it as the alcohol, usually taking to drinking large amounts of alcohol while sitting down, and then standing up only to feel the rush. she made it all the way to the women's bathroom without trouble, the light-headed feeling surrounding her skull making time seem quite a bit faster as she waited for a free stall.
it wasn't until she was on her way back to ben that the drugs really kicked in. at first it was just her eyes sight getting a bit worse, and with the poor lighting as it was, it was hard enough to strain to keep from bumping into people. she was mid-way there when her legs started to feel like wet noodles, and her balance started to waver. shouldering the wall, she somehow prevented herself from sliding all the way down to the floor, and braced herself. she wanted to scream for help, but her vocals were tight and dry. clenching her eyes, she tilted her head back against the wall, trying to make sense of what she was feeling. this wasn't her usual drunk, and she wasn't liking it too much.
"hey there, pretty lady," she heard in her left ear, her eyes slowly opening, though to her it felt as though she'd been startled out of her skin and had used quick reflexes. a man stood at her side, his hand already moving to grasp onto her wrist, helping her shift more against the wall in a stabler manner. he saw the flash of gratitude in her eyes and instantly took it for trust, his grip getting a bit tighter to try and seize all control of the situation. "what.. who--" she stuttered, but he placed a finger to her lips, cooing a sadistic shhh in her ear that made her skin crawl. instantly, she tried to struggle, flailing her free arm his way, hoping to make contact. he fought to try and fend off her blind-hits as well as grab her free wrist, but he couldn't keep her quiet and restrained at the same time.
at the first chance she got, max's eyes sought out the last thing she remembered being safe before the bathroom. catching the bar in her sight, she opened her mouth and screamed as loud as she could. she didn't hear what came out, but from the pressure in her head, she knew that something had, and it had hopefully been loud enough to get benjamin's attention. [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]okay so, idk. this is kinda crappy. but they'll get better! (:

i can't lie no more, i can't hide no more, got to be true to myself. and it feels like i am just too close to love you, so i'll be on my way. you gave me more than i can return, yet there's so much that you deserve.
the reason ben had chosen to take a vacation in carmel was to get some peace and quiet. now, not even two weeks later, he was in a club. it wasn't exactly the best place to relax, but ben always had a weakness for beautiful women. and max was definitely that. not only that, but she was a fan, and ben felt obligated to join her for a drink. it was the first time he'd been out since he'd left new york and as he got ready, ben was almost nervous. he may have accidentally put on too much cologne as he left. there really was no reason for him to be that nervous, he wasn't expecting anything to happen, but he still couldn't help it. ben had to spend a few minutes convincing himself to calm down before he left the house.
the club was definitely different from the ones in new york, but ben was too preoccupied with max to notice or care. it was a little too loud for any small talk, so ben kept himself busy with downing his drinks. he hadn't come out with the intention of getting drunk, but he really wouldn't mind. at least if he made a fool out of himself, he wouldn't remember it in the morning. after a couple drinks, ben had suggested that they dance, seeing as how they were in a club. the proposal ensued a light banter between them on how terrible they danced. he dropped the subject, waiting until they had a couple more drinks to bring it up again. by now, ben was starting to feel a good buzz and he was loosening up. he found that it was easier to joke with max. when the pill was slipped in her drink, ben had been too distracted to notice. her shirt had lifted slightly when she leaned over the bar and ben's eyes were busy wandering over the exposed skin.
he could tell that max was a little further towards the drunk end than he was, but it was rather amusing. when she got up to go to the restroom, ben laughed softly and shook his head. "how about you let me be the judge of that," he grinned. "all right, i'll be here." turning in his seat, ben watched her walk to the bathroom. once he lost her in the crowd, he turned back towards the bar and ordered a couple more shots. he figured while she was gone, he might as well try to catch up. after being on tour, his alcohol tolerance was surprisingly high. ben downed the two shots with ease and then spun around in the stool again, looking back at the crowd. while he waited for max to come back, his eyes closed for a moment and he sighed.
ben wasn't sure how much time had passed, but he did know that it couldn't have taken that long to go to the bathroom. sitting up straight in the stool, he glanced out into the crowd, hoping to catch a glimpse of max. at first, he didn't think much of it, but after a couple more minutes, ben was starting to wonder if he had been ditched. that didn't make any sense though, they were having a good time. well, at least he had thought so. just when he was getting ready to look for himself, he noticed that a small part of the club had turned their heads towards some commotion. ben didn't hear the scream, but he immediately saw that max was the one who had screamed. even from the slight distance, ben could tell something was wrong.
"hey! get off of her!" ben shouted as he pushed himself off the barstool. there was no way the man could hear ben over the music, so it didn't matter how much he yelled. as ben pushed his way through the crowd, he wasn't sure what he was going to do once he got to them. there was a slight moment of panic as he got closer and in a last minute decision, ben did the only thing he could think of. he clenched his hand into a fist and took a swing at the guy. ben ended up whacking the guy hard on the ear, but it was enough to get him to let go of max. reaching for max, ben didn't realize that all he had managed to do was piss the guy off.
just as he was about to ask her if she was all right, the man came pummeling back and tackled ben into the ground. on instinct, ben raised his arms to protect his face from taking a beating. ben hadn't exactly calculated the height and weight advantage the man had on him. luckily for ben, the bouncers were quick to pull the guy off of him and in the confusion, he got off the ground. grabbing max, ben wrapped his arm around her waist and quickly ushered her towards the exit. once they were outside, he walked a short distance from the club before stopping. "max. hey, are you okay?" ben was starting to feel the shots he took earlier and combined with the rush of adrenaline, he wasn't feeling great. "come on, i should get you home."

there was a sound, a familiar sound she could identify as skin on skin, and then the man was letting her go. stumbling, max gripped against the wall as though the floor was nothing but a black void of mystery, and falling into it would be the death of her. her eyes frantically looked around, her chest heaving with the heavy breaths that had overtaken her, anxiety racing throughout her blood. it was hard to focus her eyes on anything that was going on, but she saw enough to see ben get taken down. she tried to open her mouth to scream for him again, but this time nothing came out but a bit of a gag, choking on the oxygen she had just inhaled. max was on the verge of tears, her confused and hazy mind worried that ben might've gotten hurt, and she somehow connected it to being her fault. but then he surprised her, and after the bouncers had grabbed the oaf off of him, she beamed at him as though he were her superhero.
and, in a way, he was. the amazing benjamin kanst to her rescue.
at the feel of someone snaking their arm around her waist, max flinched a bit, before she realized that it was only ben. almost instantly, she seemed to melt to his touch, welcoming the heat from his body. with his help, she managed to walk with him out of the nightclub, and although her legs still felt like uncontrollable, fragile strings, she made it without dragging him down in the process. it wasn't until they stopped that she started to raise her head off his shoulder and open her eyes all the way. her pupils were dilated, and her eyes glossier than any string of marijuana had ever managed to get them. and even though she was looking right at ben, it was a little obvious in her gaze that her mind was miles away.
his first question was ignored, his words incoherent. however, his second statement was audible, and max's face twisted in protest. lazily, she tried to push herself away from him and stand on her own, her right eyebrow raised and cocked with her normal stubborn attitude, though nothing else in her facial expression was working out well with the image in her head. "what? no way," she slurred, unaware that she sounded ten times more drunk than she felt because of the drug's affects. "you could be some kind of weirdo, benjamin. i'm not showing you where i live." even though she was out of it, her statement was rather clear that she wasn't about to let him take her home. afterwards, her mood lightened a bit, and she leaned back against him, tucking her cheek against his chest.
"take me home with you instead?" [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]can i just say that ben's graphics are super fucking adorable? yes? okay, good. THEY'RE FUCKING ADORABLE.

in the chaos that ensued, ben was too busy trying to get max out of the club to notice how strange she was acting. he didn't even realize that he had practically carried her out the door. once they stopped and he gave himself time to catch his breath, the adrenaline rush had started to wear off. already, ben could tell that he was going to hate tomorrow morning. with a slight groan, he rolled his shoulders and glanced at max. he was a little surprised that she was still tucked into his side. when she lifted her head to look at him though, ben was well aware of the reason why. at first, ben could only stare at her in confusion. for some unknown reason, his mind began to question if he had drugged her and then forgot about it. maybe it was the alcohol speaking, but for a brief moment, ben questioned his own morals. luckily, it didn't take him long to realize how ridiculous he sounded.
it had to have been the guy who grabbed her. ben was torn between leaving max and returning to pummel the man (well, attempt to) or staying with her. as angry as ben was though, he knew he couldn't just leave max. ideally, if he had been completely sober, the best thing would have been a hospital, but after a bit of drinking, the ideas weren't exactly flowing. he was only torn from his string of bad ideas when max tried to push away. in her state though, ben wasn't about to let her go. he kept his hand against the small of her back, his eyes narrowing as he tried to understand her slurred speech. ben was almost offended when she refused to let him take her home. "i-i am not a weirdo," he scoffed. just as he started to stutter a defense, max was pressed against him again. ben instinctively relaxed into her. her reasoning for going to his place wasn't exactly sound, but ben could tell that there would be no arguing with her logic.
right now, his barely furnished apartment was sounding pretty good though. "i am going to regret this tomorrow, but all right," he sighed and muttered quietly. "still not a weirdo though." shifting slightly, ben pulled his phone out of his pocket and began searching for the number of the taxi service. though he wouldn't admit it, ben knew very little about driving. he had grown up in new york city and there had never been any need to drive. now probably would have been a good time to learn, but ben was almost positive that he would fail any test necessary to get his license. luckily, it didn't take long for the taxi to get there and with some difficulty, ben managed to get max into the car. they spent a couple minutes in the car while ben tried to recall his address. he had just moved in and it wasn't like he had spent time memorizing where he lived. after the awkward moment, ben then spent the rest of the drive avoiding eye contact and making sure max was okay.
when they arrived back at his apartment building, ben dug around in his wallet, trying to count money. eventually, he just gave up and handed the driver what seemed to be the right amount of money. there were no complaints, so ben opened the door to help max out and into his apartment. even though he'd been there for a couple weeks, ben had made no effort to make the place look like home. there were a couple suitcases that he had filled with clothes and some boxes with his personal stuff, but other than that, the apartment was pretty empty. "sorry...about the mess," he smiled nervously as he helped her sit on the mattress. "um. let me, let me get you some water."

at the sounds of his reluctant yes, she smiled against his shirt, feeling like she had just come out on top in a world war. her victorious smile stayed on her face the entire time he was trying to locate the taxi service's number, completely obvious if he could see it or even understand why she was beaming like a triumphant idiot. it wasn't until after he'd made the call for a car to come pick them up that she slowly lost it, and her mind started to retrace back to what he'd said. her eyebrows pinched together in a bit of confused sadness, and her grip on his opposite hip to the one she was leaning against tightened a bit. "wouldn't be the first time someone's told me that lie before, you know.." she trailed off, lifting her gaze slowly up to his face to see if he was looking back at her. "but i wont be tricked so easily this time, mister rockstar." by the end of her statement, max's facial expression had relaxed, and a ghost of a smile replaced the confused frown she had had.
when the cab arrived, max was a little reluctant to get into the backseat, but she couldn't really say no, especially not when she couldn't even control her own body. somehow managing to get into the cab without hurting herself, most likely thanks to ben and not her sub-conscious ninja skills, she shuffled to the door as much as she could. she was, at first, content just looking outside the window of the taxi. of course, that was before she felt ben get in behind her, and close the door. silently, she watched ben and the cab driver interact, barely able to follow the dialogue. it wasn't until they had started to move, and ben was actually paying attention to her, that she glanced at him and actually put effort into what she was seeing. slowly blinking, she let her eyes trace along his jawline up to his earlobe. from there, she went back down, following the curve of what she could see of his neck, until it disappeared beneath his shirt.
swallowing, unable to control her thoughts, she tried to shift to get farther away from him, the last sober part of her brain trying to prevent herself from doing something incredible embarrassing. even so, that didn't stop the thoughts that were racing through her mind, and the way her eyes couldn't seem to leave him for a second. for the entire car ride, she was battling between reality and fantasy, what she thought was happening behind her eyelids, and what was actually taking place. the drug was affecting her train of thought and her hormones, but max was trying to reject the symptoms.
with ben's help, yet again, max managed to get out of the cab without a single knick or ding, and she melted once again into his side for support. only, this time, the arm that she wrapped around him for security had ventured a little; her fingers had dipped underneath the material of his shirt, and even though it was a simple touch against his skin, it still made her fingers feel on fire. it took everything in her power not to start dragging her nails across his skin, for some reason the urge being overpoweringly strong. somehow, she managed to stick it out long enough for him to fumble with his apartment keys and get them inside. in fact, if he hadn't helped her down to his mattress when he had, she actually might've started. "ew, no," she disagreed in a playfully suggestive tone. "alcohol."
with a weak attempt to stand, she ended up getting onto her knees before the effort seemed to be too much. so, instead, she slowly flopped back down and started to kick her converse off, wiggling her toes in her super mario socks after each shoe had been removed. "or maybe.. some water.." she finally breathed out, letting her eyes close for a moment. she didn't leave them closed for too long, however; the room started to spin, even with max's legs and feet hanging off the mattress to the floor, and she couldn't handle that kind of motion. whipping her eyes open, she pulled herself to sit up, barely propping herself up with her right arm in time before collapsing back against the mattress.
"ben, will you dance with me in the morning?" she asked randomly, looking up at him with wide, hopeful eyes. "we never got to dance together.." as she finished muttering the last part of her statement, she had started to get herself more comfortable for sleep. unfortunately for ben, that had drawn both her hands to her jeans' button and zipper, after she'd finally relaxed back against the mattress. [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]that's because he's adorableee, like i said! also, sorry this post is like.. all over the place.

i can't lie no more, i can't hide no more, got to be true to myself. and it feels like i am just too close to love you, so i'll be on my way. you gave me more than i can return, yet there's so much that you deserve.
it had been a long time since ben had felt someone's body pressed against his like this. he had forgotten how nice it could be. ben had been looking forward to it when he got back from tour, but that hadn't exactly worked out. now he found himself wishing that max wasn't drugged so he wouldn't feel so creepy about it all. at the end of her statement, ben looked at her, a little confused. it took him a moment to realize that she was referring to his earlier statement. he smiled softly and shook his head. "i didn't mean it like that." ben was more referring to the fact that max was probably going to end up with very little memory of tonight, except for being with him, and it definitely would not help if she woke up in his apartment. creep wasn't exactly the first impression he was looking for, especially with her. of course, his first attempt at having a social life in this town would start like this.
in the cab, ben occasionally glanced over at max. the whole ordeal had done a pretty good job at sobering him up and he could feel the initial headache creeping up. max seemed content with staring out the window and for a moment, ben let himself relax. he rested his head against the window and let his eyes close. right now, he wanted nothing more than to sleep it all off. his fist was throbbing, painfully reminding him about his decision to punch that man. even the soreness from the tackle was starting to settle in. the ride wasn't long enough for ben to close his eyes for long. getting max out of the taxi was far more difficult than getting her in. as he brought her to the door, ben was vaguely aware that her fingers had found their way underneath his shirt. once he opened the door though, he shifted and her fingers brushed against his skin. the movement made ben jump slightly and he nearly let go of max.
the slight touch had startled him so much, he may have placed her down on the mattress a bit too quickly. swallowing hard, ben forced a smile at her suggestion. "alcohol is not a good idea," he left her for a brief moment to go into the kitchen and grab the mug he had been using. ben hadn't even bothered to buy dishes and so far, the mug had been used for everything from coffee to heating up leftovers. making a slight face, he made sure to wash the mug thoroughly before filling it with water. once he walked back to the living room, he found that max was making herself comfortable. ben couldn't help but grin at the sight of her socks. grabbing an empty box, he pulled it next to the mattress and placed the mug on top of it. "putting the water here, okay?" luckily, he had bought sheets for the mattress, but he was still missing pillows. ben had been using a rolled up sweatshirt and now he was regretting his lazy decision.
now that max was occupying his mattress though, it didn't leave ben anyplace to sleep. turning his attention away for a moment, ben began looking for a place to sleep. well, he could always use a shirt as a pillow and just sleep on the floor, it wasn't anything he wasn't used to. once he decided where he was sleeping, ben picked up her shoes and placed them neatly near the door. he kicked off his own shoes and placed them next to hers. at her question, ben turned back and smiled at her. the expression on her face was too adorable for him to keep the stupid grin off his face. even if she did remember this, ben doubted that she would want to dance. "yeah max," he sighed and nodded. "yeah, i'll dance with you in the morning." for some reason, it made ben feel like a kindergartner with his first crush and he turned to look at his feet.
once he looked up though, the moment had passed and max had moved on to taking her pants off. when ben realized what she was doing, he opened his mouth to protest, but he could only manage a string of gibberish. the sight of her shirt pulling up had made him completely forget the english language. ben wanted to hit himself for how stupid the sight of a woman taking her clothes off made him. with some more stuttering, ben finally managed to spit out something that made sense. "what-what are you doing?" well, it made sense, but it was obvious what she was doing. the next morning was already going to be difficult and if she didn't have all her clothes on, ben had a feeling he'd be dealing with the police. he would have loved to get her clothes off, but this wasn't how he wanted to go about doing it. "you should keep you clothes on and get some rest," ben laughed nervously. "please."

when he returned with her mug of water, she just nodded her head to his remark about where he was going to put it for her. even with a dry throat, she still had no desire to reach over and grab the mug's handle. so, for now, she let it slip into the back of her mind and she forgot about it for the moment.
hearing him agree to dance with her in the morning brought back that triumphant smile, and as her eyes closed with the more she leaned her head back against the mattress, the more it grew in size. naturally, ben's stuttered question slightly pulled her from her victorious feeling, and she opened her left eye to look at him with an arched eyebrow. she didn't say anything about what she was doing, but rather just continued to fiddle with her button. he had just told her to keep her clothes on when the fabric around her button had finally stretched loose enough to let the button slip through the slit, her zipper slightly opening with the force she had put behind it. the cool air in his apartment on her bare skin made her arch a bit, trying to pull her shirt down a bit better, but it was a cropped shirt as it was, so it barely kept her hips and lower part of her stomach hidden as it was. "i can't sleep in jeans, benny," she protested matter-of-factly, much like a six year old would tell to an adult who didn't understand something that the child did.
suddenly, max's eyes widened a bit, and she stopped shrugging her shorts off her hips. she sat up and looked at ben, her eyebrows pinched back together in confusion. "wait.. why don't you want me to take them off?" her question rang out in a little more of an offended voice than she had actually felt, but she barely noticed the tone. "aren't i good enough for you?" swallowing, she pulled herself forward, crawling off the mattress until she was halfway to him. once she was on the floor entirely, max started to pull herself up onto her feet, reaching a hand out to grab onto ben to keep her balance. however, she wasn't able to grab onto anything solid, and her fingers looped around one of the belt loops on his jeans, pulling herself against him snugly.
even in her state of mind, she was aware enough to nuzzle her lips against his earlobe and give it the tiniest of nips. "i used to have a crush on you, ben, she whispered with a soft giggle, pressing her forehead against the crook of his neck. her free hand snaked around his waist, keeping her against him in a small embrace, her fingers finding their way up the back of his shirt a bit. they just rested there, luckily, soaking up his warmth, much like the rest of her body was doing now. "do you.. think i'm pretty?" [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]weeeee, drugged max is almost a rapist. almost. also, sorry for shortnesssss.

i can't lie no more, i can't hide no more, got to be true to myself. and it feels like i am just too close to love you, so i'll be on my way. you gave me more than i can return, yet there's so much that you deserve.
honestly, ben was torn between letting max take her jeans off or attempt to stop her from trying. she seemed pretty intent on getting her jeans off and ben was too busy panicking to stop her. he was also far too distracted by the amount of skin that was showing. sure, he'd been sobering up, but his mind was still running a bit slow. turning in a circle, ben began looking around his apartment for ideas. he wasn't sure what he was looking for, but when he spotted his suitcase, he realized he could at least offer her more clothes. "can you sleep in pajama pants?" ben tried to jump over the boxes to get to the suitcase. in his still slightly inebriated state, it wasn't quite as graceful as he thought it would be. stumbling, he somehow made it to the suitcase without falling. ben had to dig around to find a pair of pajama pants, but he managed to find one.
"aha!" he grinned as he held up the pants, proud of his own ability to find them. as ben started walking back towards the mattress, max spoke and smile fell from his face. "no max, it's not that." his eyes widened when she crawled off the mattress and towards him. there was more stuttering and he took a step towards her. ben wasn't exactly ready for her to grab onto him. she pulled him off balance for a moment and ben had to wrap his arm around her to keep himself standing. "you should be lyi-" at the feel of her lips though, ben cut off. his entire body stiffened and his eyes closed for a moment. her body was tight against his and the blood flow to his brain had started to redirect. he hadn't realized that max had been such a fan and ben found it rather adorable. "used to?" he breathed softly.
a soft groan slipped passed his lips when her fingers found their way back underneath his shirt. ben didn't even realized he had groaned until he heard it and immediately, he snapped back to reality. in his own surprise, it was a miracle he didn't push max away from him. her question caught him off-guard and ben shifted to glance at her. he smiled and moved his hand to her waist. with the hand on her waist, ben pushed her slowly and started to walk her backwards towards the mattress. "i think you are beautiful and funny..." ben trailed off to concentrate on getting her back. once they got the the edge of the mattress, ben started to lower her down slowly. it was difficult to keep her steady and not let her fall backwards. his free hand moved to the mattress to support their weight and gently, ben let max lie back down. "and wonderful and i also think, you need to get some rest."
trying to minimize any quick movements, ben managed to untangle himself from max. the pajama pants were still tight in his grip and he placed it on the box. with a deep sigh, ben sat back on the floor and reached over max to grab the comforter. he pulled it over her and returned to his sitting position. "i'll be right here."

his broken words had lit a spark within the pit of her stomach, even intoxicated and drugged, she could sense arousal, and a small feeling of triumph coursed throughout her again. only this time, it was a much more personal feeling of accomplishment, and it was amazing that she had been able to hold herself back from trying to actually kiss him. at his question, she nodded her head against his neck, opening her eyes to try and look at him in the darkness. her eyes only caught sight of his jawline and skin again, and max couldn't help but nuzzle in a bit more securely, feeling right at home pressed against him so closely. "before i stopped trying to hold onto stupid things," she started to explain, but her mind couldn't tell if he'd get offended and think she had called him stupid. "and rockstars never want anything from girls like me. nothing noble, anyway.. no white knights." another laugh escaped, though this one was much darker than her giggle, almost like she had come to a painful reality. "and you don't even want my pants off, so maybe it's a good thing that i don't like-like you anymore."
his groan was, to be honest, unexpected, and it shook max worse than an actual earthquake would've. as soon as it reached her ears, she felt her temperature rise, and her teeth caught her bottom lip in a harsh bite, preventing herself from mirroring one just from the sound. there was nothing she wanted more in the world than to grab his jaw and tilt his head in order to kiss him, but even if she had the nerve to do something like that, her reflexes were probably too slow to actually get away with doing it. before the thought could sink in too deep, his hand shifted, and her attention was adverted from wanting to taste him to his hand. glancing over her shoulder, she tried to look at his hand, but only came up with nothing. his shuffling forward caused her to redirect her attention again, and her hands instantly gripped tighter against his belt loop and skin.
when he started to lower to the mattress, all max could do was look at him with the goofiest smile she'd ever displayed. for some reason, hearing something as simple as being called beautiful and funny made her stomach twist with knots. it rendered her completely helpless, and letting him take over her body was more than easy to do. when she was stationed comfortably, ben only inches from her, she was so tempted to lean up and capture his lips with hers. it'd be so easy to wrap her arms around his neck and pull him in closer, and the rest would take off like a fairytale. at least, it would've in her mind, anyway. but his words brought her back to reality, and her eyebrows furrowed at the thought of sleep. "you sound just like my dad," she replied, but she made no effort to sit back up or move. "well, guess what. i'm not six anymore."
despite her childish and defying voice, she still remained on her back, slowly turning onto her side to watch him better after he'd backed off. pursing her lips, she inhaled slowly through her nose. it wasn't until the silence that broke out between them had started to drive her up the wall that max pushed her hands underneath the blanket. lifting her hips, she pushed her jeans off the rest of the way, pulling them out from underneath the blanket to toss away after she was finished. a sigh of relief sounded, and she wiggled her toes noticeably again underneath the comforter, enjoying the feel of her bare legs against the soft material. "you don't have to sit so far away, ben," she mumbled softly, tucking her right arm underneath the makeshift pillow that was there. carelessly, she lifted her left hand and patted the bed beside her, trying her best to smile through her exhaustion at him.
"come tell maxxie a story. pretty please?" [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]idk, but this seems pretty crappy. i hope it's nooooot.

i can't lie no more, i can't hide no more, got to be true to myself. and it feels like i am just too close to love you, so i'll be on my way. you gave me more than i can return, yet there's so much that you deserve.
at max's laugh, ben felt a pang in his chest. "that's because girls like you, deserve better than rockstars," he murmured quietly. ben did want max's pants off, but that wasn't something he was about to admit. he was starting to think that he had blown his only chance with her. it was a shame too. he had only known max for a day, but he had felt for the first time in his life, that she was genuine. she was someone that he would have wanted to know better. maybe he was just looking for some distraction from his recently failed relationship, then again, he wasn't quite ready to let the idea go. still, women didn't really tend to go on future dates with potential creeps. with a soft laugh, he nodded slightly in agreement. "maybe it is a good thing. i'd only disappoint you."
she was not making things easier though. with their proximity, ben was finding it very hard to keep his mind from wandering. it took all of his concentration to focus on whether his kitchen countertop was granite or marble, instead of how well max seemed to fit against him. as he shuffled towards the bed, he could feel her grip tighten against him. by this point, ben was screaming the countertop debate in his head, forcing himself to think of anything but kissing her. his situation only seemed to get worse when he had to lower her down. granted, a part of him wanted to dump her on the mattress and then take a cold shower, but in her state, he couldn't leave her. well, that and it would have been rude to do so. ben's only saving grace was the fact that drugged max seemed to take on a childish state. now ben felt like a father, trying to get a child to go to bed. ben had to try his best to stifle his laughter at her defiance, but it was difficult.
as he sat down, ben sighed and rubbed his eyes. it was already getting late and if max didn't sleep soon, he was very close to just passing out. rolling his shoulders, ben brought a hand up to massage the back of his neck. his eyes had only closed for a second and it was so quiet, he thought max had already fallen asleep. it wasn't until he heard her rustling, that he opened his eyes. even though she was under the comforter, it was quite obvious what she was doing. ben had just opened his mouth to protest, when her jeans were tossed away. it was too late to try to convince her to leave them on and ben had very little faith that he was going to convince her to put on pajama pants. "fuck it," ben muttered as he ran his hand over his face. "not even going to try." he was far too tired to even attempt to wrestle pants onto her. by now, ben had already come to terms with the fact that the next morning would be disastrous. in fact, he would be happy if she just didn't call the cops.
after staring at max for a good minute, waiting until she fell asleep, ben nearly fell asleep sitting up. when she spoke, he jumped, startled by the sudden break in silence. "huh?" he stared blankly at her as he tried to process what she had said. his confusion only deepened when she asked for a story. "a...story?" it took him a moment to gather himself together and slowly shift from his sitting position. the effort it took to get her in bed and comfortable had already been considerable. ben didn't want to risk defying her and having her throw a fit, so he cautiously moved to sit on the edge of the mattress. "well. um. uhh," ben furrowed his eyebrows, trying to think of a story. his parents weren't exactly the type to read him bedtime stories, so he was panicking as he tried to think of ideas. for some reason, the only thing his mind could come up with was harry potter. "there once was a boy who lived with his aunt and uncle. they were horribly mean to him, but they didn't know, he was wizard. yeah."
thank god she wasn't going to remember this in the morning.

when he finished his small introduction to the story, max was more than oblivious to the fact that it was harry potter. if she was sober, or at least just drunk, she would've quickly been able to pin-point where it'd come from, especially considering it'd been one of her favourite book series in the world. but right now? it just sounded like heavenly gibberish fluttering from the back of ben's throat, and she was content with letting him ramble about wizards and names that sounded more like wart diseases, rather than names of fictional places. before she was completely incoherent, however, she'd reached her left hand across the small space between them on the mattress and curled her fingers over his hand. she hadn't seen herself do it, her eyes having closed moments before, but after giving his hand a small squeeze, she let her grip loosen so he could move his hand if he desired. "you sound like an angel.." she groggily muttered into her pillow, completely unaware that she'd just said that out loud. seconds later, she was out cold, sucked in deep by the alcohol and drug.
hours later, the sun woke max up. at first, her vision was blurred when she attempted to open her eyes, and her first thoughts weren't of being drugged, but drunk. slowly, she pulled herself into a sitting position, crossing her legs underneath the comforter, hands working away at rubbing away the sleep from her eyes. hopefully, in the process, it'd clear her vision as well. after she was finished trying to wake herself up, she opened her eyes again, coming face to face with a completely unfamiliar space. instantly, max started to panic. scrambling to get off the mattress, she was about to run for the door when she realized she was missing her pants. fear rolled up her spine, and very slowly started to inspect herself, looking for any signs of struggle, or.. well, anything that would tell her why she was practically half naked.
after making sure that everything at least felt in order, she ran her tongue along her bottom lip, and then into her cheek. she didn't taste anything.. weird, so she didn't think that she'd been with someone last night. scrunching up her face, she grabbed her jeans from the floor and started to pull them on. eyeing the water, she looked at it as though it was an obvious suspect in a large crime case, all the while shuffling herself into her pants again. after her pants battle was won, and they were comfortably on, she slowly reached forward and grabbed the glass. lifting it up to her nose, she sniffed it, unsure as to what she was expecting. when nothing seemed wrong with it, she tipped it to her lips, swallowing a few mouthfuls to wet her throat. as she put the cup back, she noticed the pyjama pants and made an even more confused face. had those been for her, or someone else?
"hello!?" she called out, unsure if she should inspect the rest of the apartment, or just leave. when she tried to remember the night before, nothing came to mind that stuck out. there were bits and pieces, but they were too contorted to actually understand. "where am i!?" with a defeated sigh, she plopped back down on the mattress, falling back to rest against it. closing her eyes, she raised her hands to her temples, giving them a few circle rubs in an attempt to stop the throbbing. "... what the hell did you do last night, max." [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]i had no idea where to put ben, so i just left that open for yoooooou. hope this is okay (:

storytelling was not one of ben's fortes. lucky for him, max didn't seem to be paying much attention to his story. truthfully, it had been a while since he'd read harry potter series and with everything going on, he was having a hard time remembering the story. after butchering the introduction, it only went downhill from there. ben noticed that max was struggling to stay away, so his story just ended up being an odd combination of harry potter and star wars. instead of a wand, harry had now acquired a lightsaber. in his mind, he'd made the story a million times better. a couple minutes in, ben was pretty much sleep-talking. since max wasn't really paying attention, ben was just making things up. "and...um, so harry used his lightsaber to destroy the troll. stuff collapsed. explosions," he yawned and shrugged. if she didn't fall asleep soon, he was just going to spout random words and hope that lulled her to sleep.
despite the horrific storytelling, it did seem to work. ben had just closed his eyes when max reached out to grab his hand. slightly opening one eye, he smiled and gave her hand a slight squeeze back. when she spoke, ben grinned and replied without thinking about it. "you look like an angel," he mumbled. once max had fallen asleep, ben shifted off the mattress and onto the floor. without moving his hand, he rested his head on the mattress. the floor wasn't exactly comfortable, but ben was so tired, he didn't even care how sore he was going to be in the morning. before he fell asleep, he tilted his head to glance up at max. his hand closed a little more tightly around hers and with a slight smile on his face, ben quickly fell asleep.
sleep didn't last too long for ben though. he hadn't thought about grabbing something to cover himself with and the cold woke him up. his mind wasn't ready to wake up though and ben instinctively reached around to grab his blanket. it wasn't until he grabbed something solid that he slowly started to wake up. confused, he opened his eyes to see what his hand was on. with a groan, ben pulled himself into a sitting position and stared at his mattress. it took him a few seconds to realize that was staring at a person in his bed. rubbing his eyes, ben moved his hand away and gave her a slight poke, just to make sure she was real. still half-asleep, ben turned around and looked at his apartment, trying to figure out what happened. his eyes slowly turned back to max and almost immediately, he remembered the night before. "fuuuck, nooo." a part of him was hoping that somehow he could skip all the awkwardness that would happen would she woke up, but it was bound to happen.
for the next few minutes, ben just sat there and stared intensely at max's sleeping form. however, she seemed to be in a deep sleep and showed no signs of waking up. he didn't want to wake her up, but he didn't want to be staring at her when she did wake up. finally, ben decided the best thing to do would be to take a shower and maybe tidy his apartment while he waited for her to wake up. grabbing a clean change of clothes, ben made his way to the bathroom. his entire body was hurting from the night before. being tackled to the ground and sleeping on the floor, wasn't a good combination for his muscles. the hot water felt great and ben ended up taking a longer shower than he usually did. he didn't even hear max waking up, even after he got out of the shower. drying himself off, ben pulled on a pair of jeans and an old band shirt. with the towel draped around his shoulders, he walked out of the bathroom. as he closed the door, ben glanced up and saw max. his eyes widened and he froze in place.
"heey. morning," he managed a slight smile. "uhm. i don't know how much of last night you remember..." ben had no idea where he was supposed to start explaining. "we were at a club and i think someone slipped something in your drink. so. i, uh, ended up bringing you back here because i don't know where you live....i'm sorry."

the sound of a door opening and closing got her attention, and max instantly scrambled to sit up on her elbows. her eyes widened when she saw a body emerge, and for a moment, she didn't have a clue who the hell he was. fear blasted throughout her body, and she could've sworn she felt her heart burst through one of her ribs from how hard it seemed to be pumping. but when ben turned to face her, she didn't know what to do. swallowing thickly, her throat suddenly felt extremely dry and enclosed. had he been the one who kidnapped her? her face started to twist with confusion and disgust, but he started to speak, cutting off any reaction she could've further had. as he started to explain things, she pulled her legs up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them in order to keep them in place, and rested her chin on the top of her left knee, peering up at him. his words brought a little bit of light to her memories, enough for her to remember the weird man who had started to help her when things had started to get blurry, but then the situation shifted, and he'd tried to keep her restrained.
after his apology, max's eyebrows slowly pulled together in a tight pinch, pushing a hand into the front of her hair to keep her bangs from falling in her face. she was confused, more than anything, now, but she believed him. at least there was that, right? after all, why would a famous musician want to kidnap a girl like max? she wasn't anything to anyone important, so holding her for ransom would've been stupid. plus, she was sure he could get any girl he wanted if he just smiled the right way, so someone like ben wouldn't have to resort to kidnapping to take care of any personal problems he might have. "fuck."
slowly, she exhaled, her eyes coming to rest back up at ben. "don't.. be sorry. i should be apologizing. i don't know what happened, but it probably wasn't a cakewalk, so.." clearing her throat, she shrugged her shoulders, trying to find some sort of way to apologize to him for whatever she might've done the night before. it wasn't until then that she remembered waking up without her pants, and ben emerging from the shower kind of made her think that something might've happened. awkwardly, she started to pull herself up to a stand, shifting so she was no longer standing on top of the mattress. "uhm.. well, i guess we're done here." she spoke a little abruptly, cutting off any sound of hurt that had started to fill her chest. she had no idea why she felt like she had just given him everything she had, and now there was no point to stick around, because she had nothing left to offer him. but everything was pointing towards them having done something last night, and in max's experience, a lot of guys - especially in a small town like this - were just ready to grab the next thing they could and concur it, too.
"last night was.. fun." her words were clearly unsure, considering she couldn't remember whatever 'fun' she had, but she wasn't about to ask a stupid question like, "hey, did we have sex last night? 'cause i totally can't remember if we did." instead, she just let herself assume the worst and started looking for her shoes. [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]idekkkk. enjoy haha

ben could only imagine what max was thinking. he had woken up feeling like shit, but at least he was in his own home and he remembered the night before. not only that, but ben realized that max was a fan of the band. seeing him standing in the doorway was probably a traumatizing event all in itself. when ben stepped out of the bathroom and saw the look on max's face, he felt crushed. disgust was a reaction he was somewhat used to, but only on the faces of those who either disapproved of his tattoos, music, or lifestyle. he'd never witnessed disgust as a reaction to his entire physical being. the fact that ben had been trying to seek max's approval, only made him feel worse. perhaps he had made a mistake in running away from his problems. so far the move from new york had only caused more problems. the look on max's face seemed to bring back every doubt ben had about his life and it hit like a punch to the gut. it was difficult to keep a pained expression off his face. in his panic to keep it covered up, ben stumbled over his explanation of last night's events.
even if he had rehearsed an explanation in his head, ben was sure it would have ended the same way. there was nothing he could say to justify how max had ended up in his bed. at the very least, his apology was pathetic. if anything, he was surprised it didn't make her immediately want to call the police. when max apologized, ben's eyebrows furrowed his confusion. out of all the things he had expected her to say, an apology wasn't even on the list. it completely caught him off-guard and ben couldn't even find the proper words. his mind was racing through the events of the previous night, but he couldn't pinpoint a single moment that would require an apology. ben's thought distracted him and he found himself staring at his feet. when she spoke again, his head snapped up to look at her. for a moment, ben glanced around, as if bewildered by his surroundings. he didn't want max to leave. ben didn't want it to end like this. what could he do though? "i...should...let me call you a cab?"
taking a step towards her, ben started to head towards his phone. the uncertainty in max's voice stopped him dead in his tracks though. his head tilted slightly, trying to process the phrasing of her words. it took him a moment to figure out what she was referring to. max had woken up without pants and he had just walked out of a shower. "you don't remember anything at all, do you?" with a soft sigh, ben ran a hand through his hair. it wasn't like things could get worse, ben might as well try to fill in the missing details. "i understand if you don't believe me...but nothing happened between us. we were getting drinks. i must have turned away for a second and someone slipped something into your drink. you went to the bathroom and i waited at the bar. i don't know what happened, but i turned around and some guy had grabbed you. there was a bit of a scuffle," ben paused, making a slight punching gesture. "i couldn't get you to tell me your address, so i brought you back here. you said you couldn't sleep with jeans, so you took them off, and fell asleep. and...i, uh, slept on the floor."
ben had left out a few details, but he figured in the grand scheme, they weren't really as important. "i'm really sorry about this." he bit his lip, trying to figure out where to go from there. in all his ranting, ben had managed to scrap together one idea. honestly, it was a stab in the dark, but he figured he didn't have anything to lose. well, except maybe his dignity. "this'll sound crazy...but, i was hoping we could start over," he winced and forced himself to look at her. "from the beginning?"

max wanted to lie, and say that she remembered everything perfectly fine, but to be honest.. she didn't. and it almost terrified her, just because she wasn't sure exactly what had happened between them. if she was supposed to feel any different today, rather than when she remembered meeting him in mosh hero. or if they had just had drinks, and maybe gotten a little bit friendly, but it wasn't just a notch in someone's bedpost. it was driving her up the wall, all the possibilities that could've happened, and she wanted to ask ben a thousand questions to make sure her tracks were covered and she didn't make an ass out of herself, but at the same time, she didn't want to sound pathetic. "uh, not really.. no." she muttered honestly, adverting her gaze defeatedly when she spoke. when he started to speak, however, her eyes shifted back to his face, and her hands stuffed themselves awkwardly into her pockets as she took in all the information.
blinking slowly as he finished, she bit the inside of her lip thoughtfully. it made sense, the guy she remembered helping her and then pulling a complete u-turn in the opposite direction of mood. she was trying to search for something else to confirm his words, but she knew she was fooling herself if she tried to tell herself that she didn't believe him. she felt fine, other than the side effects of whatever drug she'd been slipped, and even though she barely knew him, she also felt safe. his second apology brought her from her thoughts, and she shook her head in protest immediately. "what? no, don't.. ben, don't be sorry. if you didn't do what you'd done, i probably would've woken up in a worse state than this. if i even woke up." she tried not to seem too spooked with that thought, that her life could've literally been seconds away from almost ending if ben hadn't been there to keep her out of harms way, but she figured it was a little impossible to avoid. her emotions were all over the place, so keeping a few of them in check was even a task for max.
at his proposition, max's eyes narrowed a bit as she looked at him, studying him a bit. it was a genuine want, she could tell, and after a moment of debating, her face relaxed and a smile slowly started to pull at her lips. at first, it was just little by little, but it broke out into a larger grin once she couldn't contain how happy she was that he didn't, in fact, want nothing to do with her. that only made her further believe his story about what had happened the night before, and she was extremely glad that he'd walked into her workplace the day before. "well, that might be a little hard since we already know each other, but i think we can manage. maybe we should try something.. not so lethal this time?" she asked, shrugging her shoulders in thought. anything she might've learned the night before about ben that she didn't already know about being a fan was completely erased from her memory, so she'd have to try and work back up there with her knowledge. not because she wanted to rub it in other fans faces, but she was extremely interested in getting to know who he was. especially since he was being so noble about all of this, and the night before. that was a rarity you didn't find very often.
"we could catch a movie at the sunset center?" she suggested, trying to find things that carmel had that didn't involve alcohol. she was just about to start naming off a few movies she knew they still had playing when her stomach made an obnoxious growl. "ooor maybe we could grab a bite to eat, instead? i mean, there's alcohol there, but it's not publicly acceptable to get drunk in portabella. and i don't think there's gonna be any creeps you need to protect me from, either." raising her right hand from her pocket, she tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear, trying to make sure that her smile wasn't overbearing. "unless.. you have food in here?" she glanced towards the kitchen, seeing clear counters, apart from little dishes. she doubted there was much in the line of breakfast in there, though, so her money was still on portabella.
