» description of villa
"1,728 square feet. two bedrooms, two bathrooms, study room, and garage. fully equipped kitchen. floor to ceiling windows in living room. patio with ocean view." much of daniel's villa reflects his lavish lifestyle. he's become accustomed to living well and his salary from writing has allowed for that. daniel worked closely with a interior designer to create an atmosphere where he can work. one of the bedrooms has been converted into a library, one that daniel has spent years filling with his collection of books. the library is where daniel likes to unwind at the end of the day. a small part of the library also houses his record collection.
the library opens into the living room and daniel takes the books he reads into the living room. he enjoys the oceanview, along with a glass of wine and a good book, he's considering never leaving carmel. most of the time, the couches in the living room become daniel's bed, and his bedroom is usually left untouched. if the weather is good, there's also a similar set up on the patio where he can read. the beach behind his house isn't private and he's found that sometimes the noise outside is too much of a distraction. his garage currently houses a rental car. daniel does have ocd, so everything in his house is always impeccably cleaned and organized.
» history
from a young age, daniel was always in the spotlight. his father was a director in hollywood and his mother worked in the movie studio alongside him. when daniel was born, the family had moved to carmel to escape the chaos of hollywood and try to get some privacy. it worked for a bit, but with their work, daniel was often left in the care of babysitters and tutors. though, when he was brought along to the studio, he was often given free range to roam. daniel, quite literally, grew up in fantasy worlds. his parents often cite this as the reason for his broad imagination. as he grew up, daniel showed little interests in his studies as he was convinced that he would be an actor. though he was smart, it failed to reflect in his grades. even the private tutors his parents held would all eventually give up. trying to get daniel to care was absolutely infuriating and eventually, his parents just gave up.
most of his notebooks that were meant for school were filled with sketches of the sets he saw or short stories to go alone with the drawings. though he managed to anger all of his teachers, daniel did manage to graduate high school and out of respect for his parent's wishes, he did enroll in college. it only lasted for two years before daniel dropped out to pursue his interest in acting. he did manage to land a few small roles, but never anything big. while he was in hollywood, daniel met his first wife in a local library. the two bonded quickly over their love for books and daniel even showed some of his work to her. he had written several books, but never sent anything to any publishing companies. she was the first one to even read his work and to push daniel to send in his manuscripts. at the age of twenty-four, daniel married her and shortly after, his book was picked up by a publisher. daniel was surprised and even more so when the book actually gained some popularity.
within the next couple of years, daniel had given up his 'acting career' and started writing full-time. with his success, his marriage seemed to do just as well and the couple even decided to have a child. a couple months after the publication of his second book, daniel's daughter was born. daniel never did have the traditional childhood and he soon realized that when it came to parenting, he was a total wreck. it was the one area in his life where books failed to capture how difficult it would be. it didn't help that daniel was just as childish as his young daughter. essentially, daniel's wife was dealing with two children, except one was capable enough to live on their own. not only were they raising a child, but now daniel had deadlines to deal with. the stress this put on the family caused a slow rift to form in daniel's marriage.
a couple years later, his wife filed for divorce and won full-custody. the last daniel heard, the two of them were living in london. after the divorce, daniel began dedicating his whole life to his writing. he began traveling the world to get first-hand experience for his novels and studying people to base his characters off of. lately, daniel has moved back to carmel because one of his novels is being turned into a movie. now that he's back in carmel though, he has become fascinated with his hometown and he's decided to stay until he's done with his next novel. he doesn't have any ideas so far, so he's hoping that the town will somehow spark his imagination and get rid of his temporary writer's block.
