sometime between waking up the day before and the part last night, oliver had forgotten to close the curtains in his bedroom. needless to say, when the sun started rising, the floor-to-ceiling windows did very little to block the light. as usual, oliver had a bit too much to drink and his body wasn't going to let him get away with it. the light was the first thing to wake him. at first, oliver didn't even register it was the sun. his eyes had only opened slightly, but it was blinding. in his half-asleep state, oliver let out a low whine and grabbed the pillow next to him, pressing it over his face. just as he had started to fall back asleep, his phone started to ring. this time, the pillow muffled oliver's cursing. blindly, he stuck his hand out and attempted to find his phone. by the time he grabbed his phone though, oliver's phone had already stopped ringing. it took him another thirty minutes before he could even think about getting out of bed. with his phone in hand, oliver threw the sheets off his body and forced himself to get out of bed. pulling on a pair of basketball shorts, oliver stretched and then made his way down to the kitchen.
after he found the advil and poured himself a cup of water, he walked around to survey the damage. luckily, there wasn't anything around, but a few empty bottles and some muddy footprints. it seemed everybody had already cleared out. with a yawn, oliver decided he would clean up later. right now, he needed to stay on-top of his workout schedule. it was a good thing oliver was used to forcing his body to workout while he had a hangover. since his parent's car accident, oliver had redecorated part of the downstairs and changed it into his personal gym. he made his way back to his room after the advil had kicked in. sitting on the edge of his bed, oliver pulled on a pair of socks and his gym shoes. it took him a little longer to find a tank top, but he finally found one in the laundry room. today, oliver cut his workout a bit short. he wasn't usually one to do that, but he'd made it up later that day.
instead of going surfing to keep his heartbeat up, oliver decided to take a run. it'd been a while since he'd been out and it was a good day anyway. it took a good five minutes to find his ipod. oliver could never find anything in his house. he hated how big it was, but it was a reminder of his parents and he couldn't see himself selling it. plus, his sister was in love with the house and she would hate him for selling it. taking careful care to lock the door behind him, oliver started running towards picadilly park. his parents had brought him to the park when he was younger and it was a nice memory. still, it was painful to think about. luckily for oliver, he spotted the perfect distraction. oliver turned his music down before sprinting to catch up with the woman running in front of him. "mind if i run with you?"

there were a few things harper loved in this world. she loved dancing. it was what set her free, made her feel like she actually belonged somewhere, since her parents didn't exactly make her feel comfortable at home. they were always too ready to try and change her, although she did love them in their own way. they'd always tried to take care of her. harper also loved exercising. that probably came with her love of dance, but running was an important part of her life, as was the gym in general, but she had yet to become a permanent member of a gym, although she seriously needed to. for now, she could settle with her ipod and her nikes. it was good enough for her.
it was fairly early in the morning, but that was the perfect time to get running. she wasn't one to sleep in forever, unless she'd been to a party the night before. but the american party scene was still foreign to her, she hadn't quite gotten tied up in it yet, which was probably a good thing. she wasn't sure what kind of drunk she was, but she was probably a lot meaner than she was sober. although, sober, she wasn't mean, necessarilly. just... honest. that was a better word for it. she groaned a little bit as she got up from bed, looking around her room, which needed a major upgrade. it was way too bland. she sighed at that and walked over to her dresser where she'd managed to fill two whole drawers worth of work out outfits. that was kind of what she did, though, work out, constantly, be it at the studio, in the gym, or a run in the park. then walked to her closet where the floor of it was filled with tennis shoes and there was a pile of ballet shoes in the corner. she laughed a little to herself and picked out a pair of nikes to match her sports bra. she dressed herself and walked into the kitchen. she needed to do more grocery shopping. there was a banana that had just turned from green to yellow, so she grabbed it and a bottle of water, calling it good.
her ipod was around here somewhere. she cursed under her breath and looked around the apartment. her apartment was slowly becoming organized, but not quickly enough for her taste. eventually, she found it under a shirt (she wasn't sure how that'd gotten there) on her dining room table. she grabbed it, still stuck in her armband, and headed for the door. it was so agravating not having a car. it was sort of hypocritical driving to go work out or whatever, but still, it's not like the park was close. so, she started running. what other choice did she have? after awhile, she came to a park that was pretty nice, it had a trail, so she started running on that. it felt good, running this early in the morning. it was cold enough to keep her the heat from being annoying, but warm enough to prevent that annoying feeling in her sinuses when she breathed in too much cold air. after a little while, she had to pull her an ear bud out of her ear, feeling like there was someone near her. she looked next to her and saw a man standing there. "holy shit!" she said, eyes getting bigger a little, but not trying to lose her pace. "what the fuck, you scared the hell out of me." she put a little hand over her heart and then pushed some hair out of her face again. "sorry, you just scared me." she realized she'd been rude. damn those english manners. "oh, uh, sure, i guess you can run with me. if you can keep up."

despite the amount of money oliver had at his disposal, there was a part of him that still wasn't happy with his life. his family fortune could only get him so far. the rest was up to him and quite honestly, oliver was not the most skilled when it came to maintaining relationships. well, any sort of relationship that would last longer than one, maybe two weeks. he had made a habit of befriending tourists and when they left, oliver's rule was that he wouldn't stay in touch. of course, it wasn't really a friendship, they just kept his bed warm for the next guest. his friends were made through flirting (which is why he didn't have very many guy friends) and now, oliver just assumed it was how he met acquaintances. it was a natural instinct whenever he saw an attractive woman. he'd gained a knack for spotting tourists, mostly because he knew all of the locals, and it was probably the only reason he spotted the woman running. oliver had never seen her before and it immediately peaked his curiosity. he didn't give much thought to the fact that she might not want her run being interrupted. then again, oliver never did have a sense of personal space.
when she didn't respond immediately, it took oliver a second to notice that she had headphones in and she hadn't heard him. after a long moment, he then realized that she wasn't even aware that oliver was running next to her. maybe it wasn't too late for him to just slowly drop back. trying not to draw attention to himself, he started to slow his pace down. just when oliver grabbed his ear bud, the woman turned around. her surprise gave oliver quite the startled and he nearly tripped, trying to stifle his yell. despite the stumble, he managed to stay on his feet and keep running. his heart was beating faster than it was before and it was difficult to keep his breathing steady, but it was better than eating dirt. "holy hell! sorry!" his initial surprise was replaced with an immense curiosity about the woman he'd nearly given a heart attack. her accent was a definite indication that she was not from here and she was very attractive. already, oliver wanted to know more.
oliver merely grinned when she agreed to let him run with her. scaring the hell out of someone wasn't exactly the best first impression, but hopefully he would be able to make up for that. his eyebrow raised at the challenge. to him, it sounded like one and his pride wasn't about to let him lose. as they ran, oliver took his eyes off the trail ahead of them to size his opponent up. "oh, i wouldn't worry about me," he smirked and turned back, starting to speed his pace up a bit. it wasn't anywhere near a full sprint, but oliver wanted to test her and see how far he could push her. he hadn't gone running with very many people, at least, no one that could keep up with him.

harper never aloud her parents' wealth to get the best of her. she hardly realized that they even had wealth since she'd always refused to use it. when she turned sixteen, she got her first job and used her own money, for the most part. she loved her parents, but she didn't want them to have any kind of hold over her because when they had a hold over her, they could manipulate her. that's what it was so hard for her to be here, on their dime. she'd agreed to stay at home so they would pay for her college, but when harper brought up gonig abroud, they saw it as a time to convince her to get into an actual career path, not just something silly like dance. so they insisted she take some other sort of classes, and the least painful of the options was writing. it was better than science courses. that just wasn't her thing. but journalism? she could handle that. it was a price to pay to be able to come to america to study and actually experience things. and, besides, it was an easy ticket away from her parents. taking a couple classes was a small price to pay.
it was so weird how guys here were so sure of themselves. it seemed americans were just sort of... full of themselves. or at the least self away. she eyed him, noting that he was attractive, but also noting that he knew he was attractive. that made him a little less appealing to her. there were so many people in her life like that, it seemed. people that knew they were good looking and used it to their advantage. it was a little funny how scared they were at each other, so her lip curled up a little bit to hear him freak out in return. he thought he could keep up so easily. so had dante. and how did that work out for him? not so well. she shrugged a little bit and said "keeping up with me may not be so easy. but it's okay for you try." harper didn't meet a lot of people that could keep up with her, most of the time, whoever tried, gave in. it's just what she did, she was fit, and she didn't slow down for anyone. so if they fell behind, they fell behind, and she may or may not ever see them again.
she met his speed and realized this guy was in legitimate shape, not just someone who had the look of being fi, but someone who had endurance. harper's whole day was working out, so she had a ton of endurance, but the people that tried to match up to her didn't have that so much, all they could do was sprints of work out, nothing that would actually carry them. "do you always come running around this time, or is this new for you?" she kenw it wasn't new for him, you could tell by looking at the guy, but she wasn't going to let him know that she could tell just by looking at him, that would only fuel his snese of self assurance, and he probably got plenty of that from other girls. "and do you always scare the hell out of people when you meet them for the first time? or am i just special?" she questioned him, cause he'd certainly done that.

rich, attractive, and a body to match. honestly, it was no wonder that oliver thought so highly of himself. most of the time, he got what he wanted with a smile and little false modesty. oliver didn't fake everything though. he'd spent most of his childhood in and out of hospitals, and his health had always been a priority. when she doubted his ability to keep up, oliver just grinned. he was only halfway through his usual run, so he still had the energy to sprint a decent distance. while oliver had no idea how long she had been running, he had no doubt that he would be very capable of keeping up with her. plus, oliver wanted to stick around long enough for a name and a phone number, so that was just more incentive for him. unless, she was in a hurry to get away from him. then again, who wouldn't want to get to know him?
when he sped up, oliver hadn't expected her to keep up with him so well. it took by surprise, but he was actually glad to have the competition. at the speed they were running, it was still pretty easy to talk. still, oliver didn't want to waste too much breath, just in case. with a slight grin, he glanced sideways at her. "i don't usually run here, though, with this view, i just might start," oliver raised his eyebrow, indicating that he clearly was not talking about the scenery. quite honestly, oliver had never even thought about hitting on women at the gym. whenever he went, he was usually too focused on his own workout to even bother with other people. of course, he didn't mind if someone struck up a conversation, but he knew how much other people despised it. if he was going to meet women like the one running next to him, oliver was seriously considering leaving the comfort of his home to visit the gym more often.
"i usually wait until the fourth or fifth date for scaring people." that was a lie. it was very rare for oliver to ever see someone more than two or three times. oliver couldn't even remember the last time he had taken someone on a fourth date. judging by her accent though, she wasn't from around here and if he was lucky, she wouldn't be in town for longer than a couple weeks. "i guess you're just special then," oliver grinned. he fell silent for a moment after speaking and looked out ahead, surveying the area around them. spotting a trail mark a little distance out, he pointed to it. "tell you what, i beat you to that marker there, you let me take you out for coffee and if you win..." oliver trailed off. he hadn't really thought that far ahead. besides, oliver was pretty confident that he was going to get there first. scrunching his nose, oliver shrugged. "i don't know, think of something."
oliver didn't really give her time to respond though. he'd already picked up his pace and started an easy sprint away from her. so maybe it was cheating, just a little. then again, there weren't really rules.

harper wasn't exactly modest herself, she knew what was good about herself, and knew how to flaunt it. but that didn't mean she boasted all of her good qualities to people and it didn't mean the girl abused the ability to get what she wanted. she wasn't a bitch even though she knew she could get away with it. there were a lot of people in this town that were very proud of themsevles, and you could pick these people out from a mile away. it was fairly obvious that this guy was one of them. he carried himself in a way to where it was obvious he knew he was good looking. that was sort of a turn off, but he was attractive. not attractive enough for harper to let him get away with any funny shit.
running this fast and this much wasn't really un for her. harper liked to pace herself and do long distance. that was more entertaining because she felt like she accomplished more if she could see how far she'd gone. just running fast would make you run out breath more quickly and want to quit. harper didn't like quitting, so eventually, the girl would slow down to fit her own pace. her eyebrow arched to hear him hit on her like that. so, that confirmed it for her. he was used to getting what he watned and he was probably a bit full of himself. at least had confidence in himself. maybe too much? that's what she was beginning to think. "please, don't." harper didn't give in to guys like this. they were too used to and she didn't believe in being just another girl for guys to pick up. guys like him needed to have their bubble burst every now and then.
at his mention of dates, it took her a little bit of effort to not laugh, but a chuckle still escaped. "oh please, when was the last time you made it to a fourth date?" she questioned. he was just so stereotypical, he was easy to judge and easy to predict. if he'd been in an actual relationship, harper would eat her words, but there were plenty of guys like him in the world. harper sort of felt bad, it was flattering that he was bothering to hit on her, but the moment harper let her guard down, he was notice the vulnerability. harper wanted to be in control of the situation, not him.
before she knew it, he was taking off past her and there was no hope for her to catch up, and he knwe that, that's why he cheated. she ran towards him, pushing to keep up, but not crazily since harper just couldn't beat him. he got to the marker moment before she did. she came to a running stop, leaning over and putting her hands on her knees, breath having left her body for the most part. she stood up moments later, not wanting him to think that she was too tired or anything. "a, you cheated." she paused. "and, b, i let you win. why would i pass up a free coffee, even if it is with you." she smiled slightly at him. harper was being a bitch, she realized this, and if she kept it up, maybe this guy would change her mind about wanting to take her out. that would make her job a let easier and a lot less painful for them both. harper didn't like being a bitch, it was just in her nature sometimes. it was a defense mechanism, one that worked pretty well for her so far.

it was quite clear that this woman wanted nothing from him. oliver was having a very hard time understanding this though. to him, the laws of attraction didn't extend past looks. quite honestly, when oliver wanted to sleep with someone, he could have cared less about personality. most of the people he did know, had the personality of a rock. boring, but at least they had some weight. the fact that she was showing no interest, was only making oliver far more interested. he wasn't used to being rejected and oliver didn't really know how to deal with it. oliver only laughed at her initial rejection. still, there was a nervous twinge to his laugh, because he couldn't tell if she was joking or not.
oliver was also not used to people seeing right through him. it was quite unnerving when she questioned him. he nearly stopped dead in his tracks just to stare at her. sure, it would have been easy for him to lie about his dating history, but he had a good feeling that she would call him on it. shaking his head slightly, oliver shrugged. "it's what, 2012. so...probably a good six years," he grinned. "so what, it's been a while." before she could question him anymore, oliver had already sped up and run ahead of her. the best way to avoid the hard questions was just to run away from them. in this case, quite literally, run. oliver didn't even have to look back to know that he had already pulled away from her. from the looks of it, she was a distance runner, not a sprinter. oliver was the same, so he had to put everything he had left into the sprint. still, she did a great job of keeping up and even with the head start, oliver was surprised to see her pass the marker a moment after him.
trying not to sound too out of breath, oliver practically wheezed in laughter when she spoke. he placed his hands behind his head, trying to catch his breath again. "oh right, and if this had been fair, you would have beat me. next time, we'll see about that." when he finally managed to stand up straight, oliver stuck his hand out. "oliver wyatt," he smiled at her. "figure you should know the name of the guy you'll probably be avoiding after today." at least she was letting him take her for a coffee, even if he did cheat. apparently, she didn't realize that her efforts to seem uninteresting where only making him more interested. the way oliver saw it, he had a challenge now. "are you new to town? there's a lovely little coffee place a few minutes away."
