[atrb=style, width:252px;][atrb=valign, top] keep your heart CLOSE TO THE GROUND a regular day for harriet generally started around six, six thirty in the morning. she'd wake up with her alarm, struggle to find that early bird she keeps hearing about inside of her, and somehow manages to gather herself enough to make a cup of tea. from there, her day usually gets better as she wakes up, but working for someone like daniel wicket couldn't always be considered a better situation than being up at six in the morning. like, this morning, for example. her alarm had another hour to go before it would start blaring in her ears, and after getting to bed a little bit later than normal because of an inspired vision she had needed to paint, hearing her phone go off with daniel's ringtone instantly turned a possibly decent day into a very, very bad one. the first call, she had ignored. it wasn't that hard to do, considering she was still halfway asleep when she came to realize that her phone was even going off. but at the second call, she blindly reached over to her nightstand and grabbed the iphone. barely opening her eyes enough to see the answer option, she hit the talk and raised the phone to her ear, mumbling an incoherent response. whether she was just too tired, or daniel had really lost his marbles, harriet couldn't exactly tell as he carried on about her having to come save him from something or other. daniel never called her before six unless it wasn't an emergency, and with her lack of coherence, harriet didn't want to take a chance that she just wasn't understanding something, and come into work only to find the place trashed, and daniel missing. it wasn't unheard of for people to kidnap famous writers; although, she highly doubted they'd be proud of themselves after hearing an earful from the forty-year old man. scrambling out of bed, having hung up her phone with a delayed 'i'm coming, i'm coming', she grabbed the first clean clothes she could find that were presentable. it wasn't her usual work clothes, harriet's dresscode being more dressy while she was on the job than casual, but at this point, her mind was barely functioning to give a shit if her underwear was over her shorts. as she tried to get herself ready in a small amount of time, she grabbed things that she knew she'd need; her bag, her phone, keys, and her glasses. shouldering the messenger bag after checking to make sure her planner was already stuffed inside, she twirled the keys around her index finger as she made her way to her apartment's door. routing around for the first pair of heels she could find, harriet slipped into them and almost instantly regretted it when she took a step outside her apartment. being half asleep and trying to walk in pumps? she made a mental note to never do that again. making it into her car, she didn't waste any time pulling out of the apartment's parking lot, and headed towards the villa's. the urge to stop and grab a tea on the way was there, but harriet's mind was buzzing too much with the different possibilities that she'd have to save him from. as far as she was aware, he wasn't allergic to anything, so at least she could rule that out. but for all she knew, he could have a deadly fear of spiders, and a nest of them could be making their home underneath his bed. it had made her driving a little more erratic than normal (it probably not helping that she was still too used to the difference between the left and right side driving), and by the time she pulled up the stretch of his driveway, her mood was more than flustered with thoughts. most of which were ridiculous, but she wasn't ruling anything out until she at least made sure that he was okay. exiting the vehicle, she grabbed her bag and pulled it out with her, slamming the door shut behind her. walking up to the front door, she unlocked the door with the code she'd known off by heart for quite some time, and entered the large house. closing the door behind her, she dropped her bag and instantly went on her search for daniel, abandoning her messenger bag in the foyer. "daniel!" she called, cupping her left hand around her mouth to carry her voice a little bit more throughout the large building. a small sound drew her attention into the living area, and slowly, she clicked her way into the large room, stopping in the doorway to survey the area. what she saw was more of a surprise than anything. furniture she'd never seen before was scattered amongst the room, some still in their protective wrappings, while others looked as though they'd been ripped open. pinching her eyebrows together, harriet was about to take her leave and continue her search for her boss, when her eyes caught sight of an odd shape in the corner of the living room. considering it was still a little dark outside, and there wasn't much light to cast around the large living room, she walked slowly towards it, reaching for the light switch to the room when she approached it. daniel's body came into view, and she let out a startled gasp, clutching a hand over her heart from the shock. for some reason, when the light had flicked on, all she had seen was daniel's body and had assumed the worst. "jesus h. christ, daniel wicket! are you trying to give me a heartattack!?" inhaling deep, calming breaths, she relaxed against the back of a wrapped couch, her hand still holding over her heart as though it'd pop out of her chest if she didn't hold it in. eventually, her eyes cast back over daniel, and she shook her head slowly. "i thought you were dying. why am i here almost two hours early?" she asked softly, her voice more curious than anything, though her lack of sleep was obvious in her appearance; she hadn't even remembered to brush her hair, and it was still tousled in its bedhead fashion. [atrb=border,0,true] [style=width: 300px; text-align: justify; line-height: 25px; font-size: 30px; text-transform: lowercase; color: #a3a3a3; font-family:georgia;]down in the waves, she screams again roar at the door my mind can't take much more i could never drown in they wanna get my gold on the ceiling i ain't blind just a matter of time before you steal it it's all right ain't no guard in my house it was all wrong. daniel had no idea how or why the furniture was in his room. all he knew was that men had shown up at his door, barged in, tracked dirt all over the place, and then left daniel as the new owner of furniture he didn't remember owning. after they left, daniel had torn open the packaging, desperate trying to find out which store had made the delivery. when daniel finally found receipt, he made several flustered calls to the number on the packing slip. the company only confirmed that he had bought the furniture. generally, harriet was around to take care of these things, but in his panic, daniel didn't even think about calling her. the only thing he wanted was to clean everything up. armed with floor cleaner and a mop, he began scrubbing his entire foyer until the place was spotless. by the time he finished both the foyer and the living room, daniel didn't even notice the time. for a good hour, he laid on the floor, curled up in a ball. daniel always pretended that he had control of his ocd, but now here he was, nearly hyperventilating because his sanctuary had been violated by furniture. yelling incoherently, daniel ran circles in his kitchen, trying to figure out what he had to do. after washing his hands for the thirtieth time that night, daniel finally noticed the post-it note stuck on the corner of kitchen counter. slowly, daniel made his way over and stared at the strange, neon yellow invader. the handwriting was not one he recognized. it took daniel a good five minutes to proces the information written on there. apparently, the interior designer had decided to order new furniture and inform daniel via post-it. now, daniel was not only frustrated, he was angry. now, his first thought was harriet. daniel had no idea what time it was and he did not care. when harriet didn't pick up his first call, daniel was hellbent on pressing redial until she did. the second harriet picked up, daniel launched into a very detailed story on the events that had occurred. he was absolutely sure that harriet didn't understand anything he said, so daniel simply ended the call with a cry for help. if anything, that would get her attention. though, if she called the police, daniel would have a difficult time explaining his state. now it was just a matter of trying to stay sane until she arrived. whenever daniel was in a mood, he liked to pace, so that was exactly what he did. however, after pacing his entire villa several times, daniel was exhausted. the lack of sleep was not helping. eventually, he found his way back to where all the furniture was and collapsed in a corner, mumbling to himself. it was a surprise daniel had made it this far in life without being locked up in a mental institution. well, other than the time he pretended to hear voices so he could do research. that was a different story though. daniel had been too busy mumbling to himself to hear harriet walk in. at the startled gasp, daniel turned his head so quickly, he nearly gave himself whiplash. his only reaction was to scream back at her. shaking his head, daniel stood up and began pacing again. "i don't know where this came from. i think the interior designer ordered them, but i'm not quite sure where it's supposed to go. this place is plenty furnished. now it's just sitting here," daniel paused, taking a deep breath. "making a mess. i liked it the way it was." turning to grab her by the shoulders, daniel stared at her. "get rid of it. i will make tea." harriet was the only reason daniel kept tea in the house. in general, he was more of a coffee guy, but after some convincing, daniel had tried tea. while he did somewhat enjoy it, he would never admit it. "milk and sugar, right? i still don't understand that. it's just like coffee, but...stranger."

[atrb=style, width:252px;][atrb=valign, top] keep your heart CLOSE TO THE GROUND never in a million years when she applied for this job did harriet ever think that she'd be woken up in the middle of the night because of a furniture crisis. to anyone else, she would've told them to shove it up their arse until she got decent night's rest, and then she'd deal with it, but she knew that daniel wouldn't take no for an answer. well, more like his ocd wouldn't, and she liked her job too much to put it in jeopardy like that. plus, from the state of what daniel seemed to be in, she doubted he'd gotten a second of sleep that night. she'd, at least, gotten enough to function properly without drooling everywhere like a mindless zombie. she'd been half listening to him go on about the explanation of why the furniture was in the living room, though admittedly, she'd been slightly dozing off. it wasn't that he was boring her- she was just finding it a little hard to wrap her head around the difference between sleep and reality. and leaning against something as sturdy as a couch definitely didn't help in the fact that she was trying to keep her eyes from closing for more than couple seconds. however, her eyelids snapped open as soon as daniel had grabbed her shoulders, her legs straightening almost instantly as she was shot back to reality. a look of bewilderment took hold of her face, and for a moment, all she could do was blankly stare at him, confused at what he was talking about. but, once she'd realized what he meant, she nodded quickly. the mention of tea had her nearly melting with gratitude, and she was more than sure that the look her face transformed into was more than enough proof of it. "yes, milk and sugar," she answered quietly, clearing her throat afterwards to try and get her voice to carry better next time she spoke. to his ramblings about not understanding the beverage, she simply rolled her eyes and turned her head in order to hide a yawn. once he was off preparing tea, harriet slowly pulled herself off the couch's backing and looked at the mess that had fallen into her lap. pursing her lips boredly, she slowly started to walk around the wrapped furniture, trying to imagine what it would look like without the protective coverings. "oooooh, bullocks. how am i supposed to make this all disappear?" raising her hands to her hair, she pushed it back from her forehead and surveyed the pile. with a sigh, she let her hair go and slowly withdrew her cell phone from her bag. calling up the number for the interior designer that she had hired, she pressed talk and waited for it to start ringing before she raised it to her ear. as expected, all she got was her voicemail. not bothering to leave one, harriet hung up and tucked her phone away. walking across the room to place the bag down on one of daniel's actual living chairs, she returned to the mess. wiggling out of her heels, she grabbed the backing on the smallest chair she could find throughout the entire pile, and started to shuffle the furniture across the floor. luckily, the pads were still underneath the legs on everything, making it much easier for pulling, and she didn't run the risk of marking the floors. but, on only as much sleep as harriet had gained that night, plus the fact that she was mildly unfocused, it was a little more than frustrating, trying to shuffle a chair that shouldn't have even been there into the dining room. it wasn't a room that daniel never used, but it was used less often than the living room. and she didn't need to put it there permanently, of course. just long enough until it was an actual decent time, and she could have the furniture shipped back to the store that it was all purchased from. as she was sliding the third last piece into the dining room, harriet couldn't keep the frustration from her grunts and breaths as she went along. it didn't help that none of this was her fault; it was all the interior designer's. "and i'll be damned if that snooty little twat gets away with this," she muttered in a harsh tone to herself, releasing the couch after it was settled far enough into the room. returning to the living room, she collapsed on the only chair left, ignoring the uncomfortable and unsoundly noise of the wrapping around the chair. it felt good, regardless, to get off her feet, and it took all her willpower to keep herself conscious. but a little break couldn't hurt.. right? that was, at least, if she could keep herself awake. [atrb=border,0,true] [style=width: 300px; text-align: justify; line-height: 25px; font-size: 30px; text-transform: lowercase; color: #a3a3a3; font-family:georgia;]down in the waves, she screams again roar at the door my mind can't take much more i could never drown in they wanna get my gold on the ceiling i ain't blind just a matter of time before you steal it it's all right ain't no guard in my house daniel was used to not sleeping, but seeing as how he'd spend all night stressing, he was exhausted. when harriet started moving furniture around, he was too distracted to even notice. even daniel would have offered some help if he had realized what she was doing. it still hadn't dawned on him what time it was. instead, he absentmindedly filled up the tea kettle with water. when it was halfway full, daniel realized he'd never seen this tea kettle before in his life. he had absolutely no idea when it had appeared in his kitchen or if he even bought it. narrowing his eyes, daniel stared at it until it started overflowing. the feeling of the water hitting his hand startled him and daniel immediately pulled back. muttering to himself, he turned the tap off and poured out some of the excess water. with a long yawn, he placed the tea kettle on the stove and turned it on. while the water heated, daniel busied himself with finding mugs and teabags. it didn't take him long though and by the time he finished, the water had not yet boiled. daniel had nothing else to do, but stand there. watching water boil was not that exciting and soon enough, daniel found himself dozing off. it was a miracle that he even managed to stay standing. by the time the water boiled, he was considering just laying down on the floor and taking a well deserved nap. lucky for him, the tea kettle had a lovely way of reminding him that water was boiling. as the kettle screeched, daniel let out an alarmed yelp and snapped his head up. in his surprise, he nearly fell to the ground. for a moment, he just stood with his legs slightly apart and his arms held out, just staring at the kettle. "i don't understand. tea. this," waving his hand, daniel shrugged it off and grabbed the kettle. he poured the boiling hot water into each mug. daniel was unsure of the exact process of making tea. his pride would have never allowed for him to go ask harriet. instead, he stared at the mugs, occasionally yanking at the teabags. when the color seemed dark enough, daniel found the milk and sugar. typically, he would have found the measuring spoons and measured out the amount of milk and sugar. quite honestly though, daniel had no idea how he or harriet preferred their tea. taking a deep breath, daniel forced himself not to think about how much this would bother him and just randomly poured in some sugar, then milk. tentatively, daniel found a spoon and stirred the liquid in both mugs. well, it looked right. daniel picked up both mugs and brought one up to his lips. he gave the mug a cautious sniff and wrinkled his nose. as he walked back to the living room, he took a sip. it was actually surprisingly good. "okay, this is somewhat decent, i'll give you that," daniel announced rather loudly as he walked back in. "hey! the furniture is gone." shoving the mug in harriet's general direction, daniel wandered off to find out where it had gone. "did you move that all by yourself? i could have helped you know." with a slight frown, daniel wandered back in the living room and collapsed on the sofa. he pulled his knees up to his chest and cupped the mug with both of his hands. for the first time since he'd walked in the room, he gave harriet a good look. he could tell she was tired. "were you falling asleep? what time is it?" raising his wrist up, daniel glanced at his watch and stared blankly when he realized how early it was. "oh good lord, i am so sorry. you're not even supposed to be here, yet. i woke you up, didn't i?" scooting over on the couch, he patted the seat next to him. "it's not use trying to get rid of this now. no one will be awake at this time." with a sigh, daniel took a sip of his tea and closed his eyes. now that most of the furniture was gone, he was feeling a bit more relaxed. even though the furniture was just in the next room, as long as he could believe it was gone, daniel felt a bit more comfortable. the hot tea was helping too, making daniel incredibly sleepy. "just us two...awake...and whatnot," daniel muttered, slowly dozing off.

[atrb=style, width:252px;][atrb=valign, top] keep your heart CLOSE TO THE GROUND she'd been so close to sleep that as daniel was walking back into the living area, harriet's body had started to slightly shift into the chair, slowly and steadily coming to a slouched posture. it was his voice that snapped her out of it, and she almost bolted straight out of the chair, her eyes alert, trying to discover where the loud voice had come from. it took her a moment to realize what daniel had said, but as he held the cup towards her to take, she did so and allowed her mind to wrap around the slightly incoherent words. after piecing it together, a bit of a smug smirked briefly pulled at the corners of her lips. she'd gotten him to agree that tea wasn't horrible; that was probably going to make up the fact that she'd just used more effort in sliding that furniture than she usually used in her every day assistant career. it definitely wasn't a common thing for daniel to admit to something, especially something like tea. raising the cup up to her lips, she took a small sip, almost welcoming the heat. it woke her up only for the simple fact that it hurt, but she knew it wouldn't do much after she got accustomed to it. "oh, don't worry about it," she responded in a half-hearted voice, holding back her yawn from surfacing between her words quite well. "i'll consider it my morning work out." she wasn't all that hurt by the fact that she had shoved all the furniture, minus one chair, into the other room by herself. in fact, it was better than most of the things she had to take care of for daniel, because he either didn't know how or it was just.. completely against his ocd to attempt a try. and dealing with furniture was ten times better than dealing with publishers, or his annoying editor (harriet couldn't even stand him). "what? no," she tried to play off, shaking her head as she attempt to sweep it underneath the rug so he'd stop going further with his questioning. she had a lot of patience for the man in front of her, for whatever reason, so things like waking up two hours earlier than she was supposed to could be looked over. eventually, anyway. "well, yes. maybe. i mean, you didn't with the first ring, but the second definitely caught my attention." she finished off, knowing that it was pretty useless trying to lie to a writer, especially one like daniel wicket. slowly, she got to her feet, ignoring the last crinkling from the chair, and plopped down beside him on the couch, careful not to spill her tea. this time, when her yawn rose, she couldn't hold it from being exposed, and she tucked her mouth into her arm farthest from him, doing her best to try and hide it. when it was done, finally, she nodded her head in agreement and raised her cup to take another sip, closing her eyes as she did. when she opened them, after daniel had started to speak, she started to realize that his eyes were closed, too. a small smile crept at her lips when she started to see him visibly start to fall asleep. setting her cup down on the table, careful to be soundless with it, she took his cup from his hands and set it next to hers. relaxing into the sofa once more, she looked up at the ceiling, slowly letting her eyes take in what she could see with the dark lighting. it didn't take long until she was fighting to keep her eyes open, and the last thing she remembered focusing on was what had looked like a bit of a crack in the paint, before her head had slid onto daniel's shoulder, and her conscious was gone. [atrb=border,0,true] [style=width: 300px; text-align: justify; line-height: 25px; font-size: 30px; text-transform: lowercase; color: #a3a3a3; font-family:georgia;]down in the waves, she screams again roar at the door my mind can't take much more i could never drown in they wanna get my gold on the ceiling i ain't blind just a matter of time before you steal it it's all right ain't no guard in my house perhaps it was the lack of sleep, but daniel rarely gave in so easily to something new. he surely wasn't about to start drinking tea. the fact that daniel was even making tea was a miracle in itself. however, if harriet were to bring this up later, he would vehemently deny any words or actions done in his sleep-deprived state. besides, he'd only taken a sip and by his definition, that was hardly enough to make a well-rounded, knowledgable decision. this was one of the negative consequences of the way daniel's mind worked. not only did his ocd effect his habits, but also his thought process. most of the time his brain was racing far faster than he was capable of voicing his ideas. there were very few people who possessed the rare ability to put up with daniel, and harriet was one of them. of all the assistants in daniel's past, she had lasted the longest, and had shown no sign of annoyance. the fact that daniel had woken her up at such an inconvenient time and she had still shown up meant a lot to him. not only was she at his place, but harriet had also taken the time and effort to move furniture around. daniel made a mental note to give her a nice christmas bonus or get her a birthday present. well, first he would have to figure out when her birthday was. now that he thought about it, daniel didn't know very much about harriet. probably because he spent so much of their time together, talking about his life and the things that concerned him. seeing as how daniel actually cared about harriet and wanted to keep her around, he needed to learn how to be social. the last thoughts that occupied daniel's mind before he fell asleep were about harriet. just as he was getting ready to form an apology (at least, his best attempt at one), his eyes had closed and slipped into a deep sleep. daniel didn't even notice her take the cup from his hands, and there was no struggle when she did. he was too far gone to even care when harriet's head rested on his shoulder. most of the day had already passed by the time daniel even stirred from his sleep. it was the sound of his ringtone that jolted him awake. as his mind started to kick into full gear, he realized harriet was asleep next to him. her presence startled daniel, who was not used to waking up to someone else. he was still trying to piece together the events from earlier while also locating where his phone was. his movements weren't exactly graceful and daniel nearly fell off the couch. by the time daniel realized his phone was in his pocket, the call had already ended. only half-awake, daniel fished his phone out and studied the screen. it was the second missed call from interior designer that had woke up. falling over onto his side, daniel rested his head on the arm on the sofa. the awkward position he had fallen asleep in had left him quite sore. coupled with his rude awakening, daniel was in no mood to be productive. now that daniel was awake, his mind had decided that it was well-rested and needed to continue his previous train of thought. it didn't seem right that harriet was the person who spent the most time with and daniel knew so little about her. struck with sudden inspiration, daniel sat up. "harriet, where are you from?" he furrowed his eyebrows and stared off, trying to draw up all the information he knew about her. daniel hadn't even checked to see if she was awake. even if she wasn't, daniel was perfectly capable of holding this conversation with himself. it wasn't ideal, but he was a writer, and he had very vivid imagination. "why did you move to carmel? the furniture is still here." with that, daniel stood up and made his way over to the only chair harriet hadn't moved. maintaining a safe distance, he stuck his foot out and tapped the chair. "she called. i don't want to call her back. do you have any hobbies? you must have a life outside of..." waving his hand, daniel sat down on the floor and stared at the seat. "this."

[atrb=style, width:252px;][atrb=valign, top] keep your heart CLOSE TO THE GROUND it hadn't even registered in harriet's mind that she was going to fall asleep, but after she'd crossed into that mystical flow of sleep, she was out cold. daniel's phone hadn't even caused her to stir, despite the fact that her own phone constantly woke her up, even for the littlest beeps - but that was more than likely because she was used to being a personal assistant. sometimes assistance was needed at ungodly hours. however, daniel's less than graceful movements that caused him to nearly fall off the couch jolted her awake, and she was left repositioning her head against the back of the couch, and trying to figure out where she was. after locating daniel to her side, her eyes slowly closed again, assuming she was just dreaming; she'd never woken up beside daniel in her life, and harriet didn't even remember spending a night in the large villa, ever. so when her eyes had opened, and the familiar look of his living room flooded into her train of thought, she disbelieved it instantly. and she'd almost been back to sleep, too, when daniel's voice rang through the piercing silence that had finally started to fill her head once again. her eyes shot open, and at first, all she could do was stare forward out the large window, trying to work out the words she'd need to use. where was she from? a sleepy brow arched up, and she started to situate herself so she was leaning against the back of the couch with her left side, pressing her cheek against the headrest in order to keep her gaze level on him without chancing falling asleep again. "i'm.. from england?" she responded, uncertainty clinging to her voice, simply from the fact that she had no idea where a question like that would've come from. not to mention, the last thing she remembered was putting daniel's drink down so he didn't spill it, and now he was asking her about where she was born, a question that had never come across daniel's lips since she'd met him. at his next question, her eyebrows pinched together, his completely off-topic statement only adding to her confusion. though that was more than normal for daniel, to play on more than one train of thought. she really had no idea how he could focus on more than one subject at once, but his brain had always been.. well, peculiar. interesting. "what time is it? she's probably awake by now. i'll call her as soon as i find my.. bag." which wasn't anywhere in sight; not right now, at least. groaning, she shifted to rest her legs down onto the floor again from their curled up position, and she peered into their tea cups, eyeing the dark liquid. when he informed her that she'd already called, harriet's eyes lit up a bit, considering half of her work was now already done. that meant that stupid blond-haired bimbo knew she had messed up, and harriet wouldn't let her live it down if she had anything to say about it. or the stiffness in her body from passing out the way she had, for the matter. "sometimes i paint," she offered in a rather unappealing voice, trying to play it off like she wasn't really interested in painting at all. her family knew of her artistic skills, but harriet never bragged about it, or showed them her work. if one of them was granted a gift for their birthday, and it was made by harriet, it was a strict "don't tell anyone outside of this house who painted this" rule. she was too insecure for her own good when it came to things like her creativity. "or read. i think i've read more books than you've had ideas for." standing, harriet rounded the couch, a small smile pulling at her lips when she found her messenger bag. grabbing it, she lifted it up and propped it onto the top of the couch, allowing her to unzip the top and reach inside for her phone. pulling the iphone out, she frowned at the missed calls number, but proceeded into her contacts anyway, searching for the woman's number. "what brought the twenty-one questions on, daniel?" she asked as her eyes lifted from her screen to look at him. "you're not trying to put me in one of your books, are you?" she smirked a bit, hopefully making it obvious that she was just kidding. it was probably the lack of sleep, or her sleepy brain trying to work properly, but she'd never noticed how cute his childishness actually was. probably because when she was in her right state of mind, it seemed more annoying and stressful than actually attractive. "oh, and, would you like another tea? i could make coffee, if you'd prefer." all harriet knew was that she'd need something to help wake her up before she got on the phone to finally sort this furniture crisis out. "well, yes, but where in england?" somehow daniel managed to hold back the rest of his sarcastic response. he realized that harriet had just woken up. if it had been anyone else, daniel wouldn't have filtered himself, but a part of him didn't want to alienate everyone he met. besides, harriet was far too helpful for him to chase away. for a moment, he just stared at her, deep in thought. daniel's eyes narrowed as he tried to pinpoint her accent. with a sigh, he gave up after a minute once he realized he had no idea how to tell accents apart. he made a mental note to find a linguistics expert to teach him the differences. as he sat down in front of the seat, daniel had already forgotten that he'd mentioned anything about the interior designer. the prospect of learning about harriet had made everything else seem less important. "have you ever been to carmel before this job? i grew up here, you know. of course, it looks very different now." when harriet mentioned calling the designer back, daniel merely waved her off. "i'm bored of her. why do i even have an interior designer?" daniel's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. he couldn't even remember if he had hired one and if he had, daniel couldn't remember the reason. the way his mind worked, daniel could name every bone in the body by sight, but he couldn't remember the small details of his own life. now that he thought about it, daniel had no idea what this interior designer even looked like. it was irrelevant though. she had failed to make a good impression and daniel was not interested enough to care. his thoughts only rested on the disaster in his living room for a brief second before he had flipped back to harriet. already he was piecing together her life and filing it away in his mind. harriet's question about the time went unanswered, mostly because daniel had no clue, and he was already preparing a whole list of questions. honestly, daniel had not pinned harriet as the artistic type. now that she mentioned it though, he could definitely see it. "painting?" he snapped his head up, suddenly very interested, despite her tone. "huh. i would have never guessed. i've always admired those who can paint. it's a wonderful talent. how come i've never seen any of your work?" even though it was the first time daniel had shown interest in harriet's personal life, he was still offended that they weren't on a personal level. then again, daniel had never been shy about displaying his achievements. all of his achievements were all printed on paper, bound, and sold for the world to see. it was safe to say that he had no idea why anybody would try to hide their achievements. even if harriet had shown little interest, daniel had already started planning ways to see her artwork. most of them involved following her back to her apartment, but not of them seem to end very well. "i'm sure most people have. my ideas are few in number it seems,"

[/b][/color] daniel frowned and glanced towards his office. so far, his novel had a grand total of zero pages, and he was starting to get frustrated with himself. "you are welcome to use my library anytime you'd like," he smiled up at her and pushed himself off the ground. brushing his hands, he walked into the kitchen to wash his hands. "i can't say that you won't end up as a character," he glanced at her. "i was just curious. we spend so much time together and i don't know anything about you. it seems strange." daniel turned the water off and wiped his hands on a towel. at the mention of coffee, he nodded, still feeling the slight after effects of sleep. "some coffee would be lovely."[/b][/color]

daniel opened the cabinet to pull down two new cups. "are you hungry? i'm starved." with that, daniel began prowling through the kitchen, opening the fridge door and cabinets, trying to find something that seemed good. a few doors were left half-open as he searched. finally, he came across a drawer with takeout menus. there were very few places that daniel had deemed clean enough to eat. he didn't want to make the effort of making food and takeout seemed like the best idea.

[atrb=style, width:252px;][atrb=valign, top] keep your heart CLOSE TO THE GROUND at daniel's eyeroll, harriet's face twisted a bit. she wasn't sure if it was the fact that she'd just woken up, but she didn't take too kindly to daniel's obvious exhaustion when it came to how little information she gave sometimes. naturally, she didn't say anything, because it was who daniel was, but it didn't make her all that grateful about it just being his personality. "liverpool." she muttered a bit more pressed, arching a brow to see if it was good enough to give him what he wanted. she still couldn't figure out why he even wanted to know where she came from- no one'd asked her that in nearly three years. "yes, i know you grew up here. remember, daniel? that's my job." a touch of a smile coiled over her lips, but before it could settle too permanently, she was answering his question. "i've never been anywhere outside of europe for anything other than business related purposes. to be honest, i'm not sure america would be my first vacation spot, either." luckily, she kept hold of her tongue, despite the fact that there were millions of things wrong with the country she currently resided in. not that england was really any better, but at least she got along more over there than she did here. everyone in america just seemed like they were only listening to you to wait for their turn to speak. the thought of reminding daniel that he wasn't exactly fit to choose out his own furniture without possibly popping a blood vessel, harriet simply let him go off on his small thoughtful wonder. as much as harriet would've loved to disregard her phone entirely and forget about the woman she currently wanted to strangle, she knew that if the issue was left to rot in the next room, daniel would eventually get sick and tired of seeing it whenever he opened the doors. and the only way to actually get rid of the problem was to call her. unless, of course, he expected harriet to shuffle the furniture around to the rooms he currently wasn't residing in- and that wasn't something anyone would be able to pay her any amount of money to continuously do. the moment daniel's interest seemed to switch on, harriet knew she was in trouble. despite her attempt at making it sound uninteresting, he was on it like white on rice. fidgeting a bit nervously, she sideglanced him with a bit of a tight-pressed smile, it obviously being forced. giving up on trying to keep up appearances, she let out a soft groan and ran a hand through her bedhead. "because i'm not much of a public bragger when it comes to my paintings. they're just.. doodles, really." awkwardly, she ran her right index finger over her left's nail, trying to distract her from the small feel of anxiety bubbling in her chest. hardly anyone even knew she painted, and it was always safer that way. no one could ask to see something they had no idea about, right? but daniel was stubborn, and his persistence was worse than hers in most areas. she'd be lying if she said she wasn't scared of him discovering her work. "and i think that writing's a much more talented aspect. there's only so much you can do with a paint brush." her attempt at changing the topic back to daniel, but she doubted it'd work for longer than a few minutes. deciding against calling the woman now, harriet hit the end button to return everything back to its default screen. dropping it back into her bag, she smiled at daniel's offer, finding it actually really sincere. "thank you. i have a feeling i'll enjoy your library." but, unfortunately, as quickly as that smile had tugged at her lips, it was fading just as fast. the moment he said that he couldn't promise she wouldn't turn into a character, she felt her stomach clench and flip. what did that mean? harriet wasn't too fond of the idea of him writing a character into his book that was inspired by her. most would consider it an honour, or a privilege, but harriet wanted nothing to do with being any sort of fictional motivation. the more she thought about it, the more it actually kind of scared her. attempting to put those thoughts behind her, harriet pushed off the couch and came to join him in the kitchen, carrying their tea cups from earlier that morning. setting both of them down on the counter, she rinsed the cups out and placed them into the sink. at daniel's question, she glanced over, taking a moment to think about it. now that there was some thought of food in her mind, her stomach did feel rather empty. "i could eat," she mused softly, letting her eyes follow him as he zipped around his kitchen. when he didn't come up with anything but take out menus, harriet arched a brow in disbelief. "you're not actually thinking about ordering out, are you?" she asked, taking a quick glance at the clock on his stove. it was only a little after lunch, so it wouldn't seem all that out of the norm to be ordering take out, but harriet didn't want something that some minimum wage loser brought to daniel's door in brown paper bags.
