maddox stood in his bedroom at the house he'd begun payments on about two years ago. he'd made the move to try and get away from everything, and it had worked for the most part, he was able to shove it underneath, not deal with it. but everyday still hurt. at least there were less reminders thousands of miles away from home. well, actually, this was slowly becoming his home. he felt more comfortable in this house than he had in his mother's house or his temporary apartment. or his dad's house, for that matter. this place was comforting to him. maybe a little big, but it was nice. besides, it had sarg. speaking of, the little dog hopped up on his bed, barking like crazy. he turned to face the dog and raised his eyebrows at the puppy, taking a step closer. "really?" he challenged. the dog knew better than to get on the bed or furniture without permission. the puppy hopped off almost immediately and headed to the back door, putting his paws up on the door that led into the backyard from his bedroom. maddox shook his head and headed over to the door, opening it, and leaving it open so whenever the pup was finished, he could just come back inside.
walking into his closet, he looked around for a shirt to where. he already had jeans on, when did he not? but he needed some sort of shirt. there was some sort of carnival in town or something, and they'd gotten a booth for the tattoo shop, doing temporary tattoos for kids and handing out coupons for the adults. it was a silly gimic, but in a small town like this, he needed all the help he could get. it had been a big move, buying the place, but maddox had been saving up since he was eighteen, so he'd been able to make a good down payment. it sucked having a loan payment for his tattoo shop and having his house payment, but they seemed to be working out pretty well, he didn't have much left on the tattoo shop, he'd been able to get it from the previous owner with the equipment and furnishing, he just had to pay for the building. aparently, he really wanted out of this place. but, maddox was happy to take it off his hands.
which t-shirt just screamed "hey, i wanna draw on your body"? well, none of them said that. so, he just picked a regular black one and a button up that he would end up taking of before the night was over. his choice of shoes? black boots that would be hidden by his dark jeans. he looked himself over in the mirror. his facial hair was a little scruff, but that was okay. he put some gel in his hands and rubbed it lightly through his hair to make sure it didn't fall down and end up looking gross by the end of the night. sarge bound his way back into the house and began to dance around maddox's feet. the man looked down at his kanine counter part and rolled his eyes. the dog wanted to go for a walk, as he always did. and, honestly, he wasn't too interested in leaving the dog by himself right now. madd walked over to the back door and closed it then ruffled around in a drawer. he pulled out a leash and a bandana. the dog went crazy with happiness. "yeah, yeah, yeah." he mumbled under his breath, then nealt down to the puppy. he wrapped the bandana around his colar, struggling to do so since, despite knowing to sit, the dog couldn't quite contain his movement. maddox attached the leash and led him into the kitchen. the sound of the puppy's nails clicked on the floor and maddox made a mental note to clip him. he found two bowls and a plastic baggy for food that they would take with them in case he got hungry. "i swear, you're like a small child." he spoke to the dog, but a smile was on his face. he picked up his keys from the countertop and headed for the door.
locking it behind him, the pair headed to the truck. "after you." maddox opened the door to the truck and sargeant hopped inside, taking his seat on the passenger side, tail wagging. maddox just shook his head and backed out of his driveway. it wasn't far to the carnival, but he had to get there pretty early to make sure everything was set up properly. he'd sent some other staff members awhile ago to start everything, but he had to make sure it looked right. they parked in the grass upon ther arrival, as it seemed everyone did, and the two made their way over to the booth, puppy supplies in hand. the booth was set up just as he had hoped. "it looks great guys. pizza for everyone come monday, yeah?" he offered. buying his staff lunch was a small price to pay for their hard work. they were something else he'd inherited, buying the tattoo shop, and he'd built a good relationship with them. they needed to know he appreciated their work. there was a small "woo!" from the group, but they continued setting up. maddox tied sargeant's leash around the poll of the booth and turned to the group again. "guys, make sure no one steals my dog. gotta head to the truck." he started to walk away, but turned around. he pointed to his receptionist, a younger girl that just spoiled his dog. she was already down on the ground, playing with him. "and no feeding him junk food." he pointed to her, a knowing smile on his face. she laughed a little bit, but the warning was pointless. any time he brought that dog to work with him, he got completely spoiled. he stuck his hands in his pockets and headed back to his truck.

She couldn't believe her team had lost; and she'd lost a bet against her brother. Lucas laughed like a jackass and slapped her harshly on the shoulder, the callases on his hands scraping the bare skin. "Looks like you lost, Cassafrass! Pay uuuuup." He drawled, holding out a hand to her and beckoning with his fingers. She sighed, rolling her eyes as she dug in her pocket for her worn out leather wallet, taking the twenty bucks she now owed him and slapping it into his hand.
"Asshole. You know I can't keep doing this all night, right? I'll be on the streets before this goddamn night is over." Her brother just laughed and stood up, crossing his arms over his chest. "Alright, new deal then. I'll give back half your money, if you do something crazy, of my choice." Cassie knew better than to let her brother, who was already crazy enough as it were, to think up things for her to do. Last time she'd let him decide, she'd woken up in nothing but a pair of cowboy boots that weren't even hers. Never again would she let that happen. And she was just about to voice these thoughts, before Jake walked over and leaned over the back of the couch the two of them were sitting on, his head right next to Cassie's.
He smelled like chewing tabacco mixed with beer, and she suddenly wanted to throw up. But as he started talking, she decided to hear him out. "You know. We've all suffered through your batshit crazy ideas on how to settle bets, Luke. How about someone else chooses what she does to settle it? Poor kid's been through enough as it is, seeing you getting freaky with your Dallas Cheerleaders poster earlier." At this, Lucas looked like he wanted to pound on Cassidy until she turned blue, and she winced and gave him a shrug. "I'm sorry! I had to tell someone, or else I would have had to go to therapy at some point... hell, I'm still gonna have to go to therapy."
He rolled his eyes and grumbled some sorry excuse, but she didn't hear him because Jake had started saying something about her getting a tattoo, and she whirled around to look at him. "Excuse you?? A tattoo?? Me?? No! You know how I get around needles. No. No. No, no no. No!" She got to her feet as she said this, complaining against her brother, who was now sliding over the couch and grinning at her, nodding enthusiastically. "Yes! Come on, sissy, it's not like I'm asking you to get sleeves like Lucas over here. Just oooone measley tat." Cassie opened her mouth to protest, but one look between the two of her brothers and their stupid grins, and she knew there was no way she was getting out of it, now.
She sighed and let out a small whine as Lucas and Jacob both took one of her arms and led her out of the house, leaving the rest of the house guests to continue the football party without them. Injections was closed for the carnival, so they had to go to the booth they were having at the carnival grounds. Cassidy chewed on her bottom lip the whole way there, nervous because of the thought of a needle breaking into her skin and leaving ink in its place until the day she died, or decided to get it removed, which she definitely didn't have the money for. Jake laughed and slapped her leg from the window seat in Luke's beat up red Chevy.
"Relax, Frass! It won't hurt as bad as you think it will, alright? I promise, kiddo." He said, as they found a parking spot and all hopped out of the truck, heading directly to where the tattoo parlor had set theirselves up. She fiddled with the ends of her hair as her brothers talked to the receptionist, who was saying something about the guy being back soon. So the three of them sat down in the chairs that had been set up for waiting in, Lucas looking weird as always in the small thing. Her family were made up of fairly huge men; then again they were farmers, so it was expected.
Isaac was the smaller of all the boys, including their own father, but that was because even growing up he had gone back and forth with different phases, and so hadn't been constantly working on the ranch; he was currently trying to become a priest, and she wanted to laugh at what he would say to her getting a tattoo. For that reason, as well as the fact that both Luke and Jake could take her down in a matter of seconds if she tried, she resisted running away and instead sat between her two brothers, squished, seeing as how she was three times smaller than both of them. She fiddled with her hands in her lap, looking around nervously and hoping for a miracle that would somehow get her out of this.
Suddenly, Cass was being barked at, and she looked around briefly, before looking at her feet to see a dog practically sitting on her legs, looking up at her and barking every now and then. She grinned, wiggling her way out from between her brothers' shoulders and leaning down to let the dog sniff her hand, before petting it gently. "Well hey there pretty... uh..." She picked the dog up slightly, enough to look between it's legs and discover that it was a boy. "Boy. Yeah, you're a pretty boy, huh?" She got her answer via tongue, as the dog started licking her hands and any other skin he could reach. Cassie grinned, scratching the top of his head. "Quite the charmer, ain'tcha boy?" She giggled, continuing to pet the dog.

maddox headed back to his car, hands in his pockets. he'd never been the most social person growing up, exactly. a lot of people had heard bad things about him, so some people liked to stay away. how could he blame them? if he'd heard the things he'd done, he wouldn't want to be friends with himself either. he had a couple of people in highschool that stuck by his side and knew him inside and out, but those people were long gone. he hadn't spoken to them in years. so, it was weird being in this small town, where everyone knew everyone, and people were beginning to recognize him. as he walked to his truck, a couple of people waved at him, having recognized him from the tattoo shop or just around town in general. he never had this before, if people recognized him a lot of time, they wouldn't bother saying anything. dallas was too big to know everyone, though. this place, though? perfect size it seemed. he waved to the few that recognized him, though he didn't recognize all of them.
he arrived at his truck and picked out his face paint kit. it was one that he'd bought for this particular occasion. it was a really nice one, had multiple shades of every color, but he figured it was a good investment. this was a great thing to do at events like this in the city. it was free this time, but in the future, maybe they could charge for it, raise money for the shop. or do it as a fundraiser. something to get their name out there. this wasn't the last of the face paint from the tattoo shop, it was a great advertising technique, he wished it was something he'd thought of earlier. and it kind of gave the shop a more "family friendly" image, rather than some punk ass rebel image the previous owner sort of made the shop out to be. it wasn't that he wanted to line the shop with stuffed animals and ponies, but he wanted it to have a better image. the shop had less of a chance of surviving in such a family oriented town if it had a bad reputation.
locking the truck behind him, he headed back in the direction of the truck, ready to get to work. people were starting to arive. there wasn't a huge crowd in front of the booth or anything yet, but there was bound to be eventually, it was free "tattoos" who wouldn't want one? when he arrived at the booth, there was a girl knelt down to his dog. of course, should he really be surprised? he never used searge as a chick magnent, but he had the potential to be one. women got suckered in by his adorable smile and bark. he laughed a little. "i see you've found the pup." he smiled down at the girl and set his paint kit down next to a stool that would be his once he got to work. "yeah, he'll steal your heart." the dog barked and sat up expectantly. maddox rolled his eyes and got the bowl and food out for his dog, setting it down next to him on the grass.
