for the first time in nearly a month, oliver got the call that he was to attend an 'important' meeting. with some protest, oliver had dragged himself all the way out to the office to sign a few papers and sit in during a few meeting. after spending his nights in a hotel, he was back in carmel. even though he was only gone for a couple of days, once he was back, oliver wanted nothing more than to be out on the beach. being cooped up had left him in a sour mood and he just wanted to surf, not teach anybody else. there were very few experienced surfers that oliver ever called and sel was one of them. she was probably one of the few locals who could put up with him. after scrolling through his contact list, oliver decided she would be his best choice.
it was still early in the morning, but oliver choose to call anyway. he wasn't really surprised when he got her voicemail. "get uuup, i haven't surfed in two days and i'm bored and i don't want to be on the beach with a bunch of amateurs. so when you get this message, get your butt over here. i'll make you food...or something." with a sigh, oliver ended the call and collapsed face-first onto his bed. now it was just a matter of keeping himself occupied until sel got here. since he hadn't been around the last couple days, the villa didn't have any occupants in it. well, other than oliver. if he was alone much longer, he was going to go crazy. rolling onto his back, oliver pulled out his phone and sent a tweet, letting people know he was going to throw a party later that night. it wasn't really necessary, seeing as how the villa was always in some state of party, even if oliver hadn't planned anything.
changing into a pair of boardshorts, oliver wandered around the house. he made himself some breakfast and gave the liquor cabinet a cursory check. oliver was rather surprised to see that he was nearly fully stocked on alcohol. someone must have brought over more and oliver was just too far gone to remember. whatever it was, he wasn't too concerned. oliver scooped his breakfast onto a plate and took it out to the patio. as usual, the weather was great and so were the waves. oliver took a short walk on the stretch of beach behind his house with his breakfast in hand. when he returned, he placed the empty dish and grabbed his phone to check if he had any messages. when there was nothing, oliver opened up his text conversation with sel. "don't make me come get you."
another couple minutes passed and oliver continued wandering around. for a second, he even resorted to just staring at the clock in the living room. when that failed to keep him entertained, oliver grabbed his ipod and plugged it in to the music system. he clicked shuffle and then pulled his phone out again. just as he was getting ready to bombard sel with an obnoxious number of calls and texts, the doorbell rang. with a bit too much enthusiasm, he ran to the door and pulled it open. when he saw sel standing there with her board, oliver grinned at her and moved to give her room. "that took you long enough. don't tell me i woke you up." |

[atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=valign,top][atrb=style, background-color:#202020][STYLE=opacity:.8; background-color:#202020; padding:6px; width:200px] [/style] | [atrb=style, width:252px;][atrb=valign, top] drenched in sin with no RESPECT FOR ANOTHER last night had been one of selene's many aggressive nights, where the alcohol didn't hit the right spot no matter how much she consumed, and there wasn't a drug available to her that would make her mood feel any different. food was unappealing, and anything in her apartment was either too boring, or she didn't have the effort to do. not even the promise of a few good parties had made her stir from her basement adobe, something that was an extremely rarity for the petite woman. company was completely out of the question, as well, despite the fact that her bed was rather lonely, and just sharing someone's body heat would suffice enough to contain her loneliness. but she was too stubborn to do that, too defiant. the only reason why she ever invited someone over was to fuck them and that was it. she didn't want to stoop low enough to calling one of her fuck buddies up, and asking him to come cuddle her to sleep like a sixteen year old in love.
so instead, she wallowed in her self pity and tried not to take out her angst on her apartment's walls, or various objects and furniture. the last thing she wanted to do, even in a disoriented state of mind, was scare her darling cat, baptist. she'd rescued the poor beast from a family that mistreated him and used his unusual handicap against him in any way they could. so scaring the three-legged feline was the last thing on her list, and for the most part, he seemed content with following her around the apartment with the occasional brush up against her legs. unfortunately, her self pity took her into the early hours of the morning, and her insomnia almost let her get a glimpse of the sun starting to rise.
considering the time she had finally consumed enough alcohol to pass out, bottle still tucked tightly to her chest, it wasn't that hard to believe that oliver's ringtone went unheard, despite the fact that it was one of her favourite songs, and her cell phone was usually her top priority. somehow, just somehow, selene managed to stir when her text tone went off. slowly, she started to open her eyes, the sun seeping in through her bedroom window making her instantly cringe. it took a moment for her to realize what had woken her up, but after she saw her cell phone's screen lit up with oliver's picture, she lazily reached for it from her nightstand. in the process, she pushed the nearly empty bottle of whiskey off her bed, ignoring the few droplets of alcohol that drained into her carpet; it wasn't like it hadn't been dumped in worse before.
after reading the text message, she then listened to her voicemail, a bit of a smile breaking through the still drunk feeling that was weighing around in her head. the only thing she could think was that it was a good thing his text had woken her up. if oliver had made his way to her apartment, she really doubted he'd be too thrilled with the state of her place. not to mention, she had fallen behind in cleaning the past week, so on top of her furious self-angst, it was a bit of a shit hole at the moment; clothes everywhere, her dishes were piled, and she was pretty sure that the alcohol she had carelessly spilt on the floor wasn't the only liquid nested within the absorbent material.
getting out of bed, a little too fast, she started to route around her room for clean clothes and a bathing suit. she made a quick change, grabbed her messenger bag, and started to get the rest of the things she'd need ready. when she was finished, selene gave baptist his morning bowl-full of food and a couple treats. scratching his head softly, she gave him a quick kiss and muttered an apology for how she had acted the night before, fully knowing that he'd have no idea what she was going on about. lastly, she grabbed her house keys and skate board, and after slipping into her shoes, selene started on her way towards the more expensive side of town.
once she arrived to the familiar residence, selene kicked her board up and grabbed it underneath the trunks. carrying it over her shoulder up the driveway, she reached her free hand to the doorbell, and rang it a few times. just to be obnoxious, she waited about three seconds before hammering onto it, a smirk already starting to pull at her lips. she had just dropped her skateboard and shifted one of her many surf boards off the side of oliver's house when he swung the door open, a lot faster than she'd expected, and she flinched back a bit with a blink from the speed. scoffing, she gave him a look and rolled her eyes after sending it. "sorry, not everyone in this stupid town actually has a sleeping schedule they can follow," she started, slowly letting her smirk push its way back onto her face as she stepped past him and into the familiar foyer. "you better have coffee on, unless you feel like saving me from drowning."
pushing further into what selene considered almost a palace, she kept her board from dragging along his floors, and made her way into the kitchen. propping the board against the counter, ignoring how large it looked in his magazine-like kitchen, and started to help herself to a cup of coffee. "so, oliver," she drawled on, glancing at him over her shoulder with a mischief-filled smile. "am i really one of the only experienced surfers you know, or did you just wanna see me in my bikini again?" it was obvious, from her tone of voice, that she was kidding, but there was always room for playful flirtation. especially with a guy who looked as good as he did. "and does my food - or something - come before or after surfing?" arching her eyebrow in question, she slowly glanced back in front of her to doctor her coffee the way she wanted it with sugar and creamer. [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]it made lots of sense, shush. also: private beach in his backyard? selene's jealous of his wallet thickness. oh, and this is her surfboard. |

i won't run away this time, 'till you show me what this life is for. round and round, i'm not going to let you change my mind, 'till you show me what this life is for. we are afflicted by fiction, building a case for eviction, circling.
after a couple days of having to wear a suit and look nice, oliver just wanted to run around in circles until he wore himself out and collapsed in a corner. he was far too excited at the sound of the doorbell. with a bit too much enthusiasm, he pulled the door open. at this point, he didn't even care if it was sel of not. hell, he would have invited the mailman to surf if he had to. though, he did very much prefer sel and was very glad it was her. somehow he could imagine that flirting with the mailman wouldn't go over as well. oliver made a face back at her and closed the door once she was in the house. "well, they should. mock me all you want, but i'll start waking you up for my morning workout if you do," he smirked and followed her into the kitchen. seeing as how there was always someone with a hangover, the coffee pot was set on an automatic timer. he didn't even realize there was coffee until sel pointed it out.
"i dunno, i do know mouth-to-mouth, so i wouldn't mind saving you," he laughed softly and opened the fridge to get the creamer out. he placed it on the counter and set about finding a clean cup for himself. [color=507777"a bit of both. i get to surf with someone who can keep up and...." |
[/color] oliver trailed off as he looked her up and down. "i can appreciate a nice view." raising his eyebrow suggestively, he grabbed a clean cup and walked to stand next to her. he placed the cup down with a soft clink and poured whatever was left in the coffeepot into the cup. as he made his coffee, oliver glanced over occasionally at selene. there was no denying she was attractive and oliver was wondering why they hadn't slept together yet. she was probably one of the only females that he'd known for longer than a couple weeks and hadn't slept with. now that he was standing there, he was finding it very strange. with sel though, he couldn't tell if she was joking or being serious. she had flirted circles around him and that didn't happen often. at the mention of food, oliver narrowed his eyes and glanced outside. "that just depends on hungry you are now." taking a sip of his coffee, he walked over to the fridge and pulled it open. [color=507777 "buut, i can tell you that the food i make after surfing will be much better than the food before surfing. the best i can do now is a sandwich,"[/color] oliver stuck his head out from behind the fridge. now that sel was here, oliver was far more excited about finally getting out, but he couldn't very well let her starve either. he had completely forgotten that even though he had eaten breakfast, not everybody was like him. the thing about oliver was that selene.. really had no idea what to do with him. she had known him since she had been actually going to school, and he had always been someone that she was attracted to. but he was also the only male friend that she had ever had, and hadn't slept with. in a way, it was like their friendship was a little more special that way. it wasn't completely tainted by sexual attraction or attention, and she could have an actual conversation with him without getting interrupted with a sexual advance. but they flirted like no tomorrow, and for sel, that was basically like a tease. the more they flirted and playfully joked around, the more she wanted to just pin him up against a wall and kiss the hell out of his lips until they were swollen. but, whenever that kind of scene played behind her eyelids, she was constantly reminded that something like that could screw up quite a lot. and, surprisingly for someone like selene, she'd much rather be his friend than try and sleep with him, fuck everything up, and have nothing.
"i bet i'm not the first girl you've said that to, player," selene shot back about his mouth to mouth line, smirking widely at him with a bit of a waggle from her eyebrows. she hadn't even needed to see him look her over, because she could tell just from his pause in his sentence that he had done exactly that. not only that, but it had almost felt like she could feel his eyes dragging up and down the height of her body, and she could've sworn she almost felt a shiver zip up the center of her spine to her neck. all she could really do was grin to herself about it, though, considering she knew that if she opened her mouth and said anything else, it'd be an obvious give away that her attraction for him was extremely high, and that if she wasn't careful, she'd easily try and find her way into his swim trunks without hesitation. but his comment had made her feel really.. attractive, as well. and although he probably saw a load of cute girls with his job, she still felt special in a weird, childish way.
stirring her sugar and creamer into the hot liquid, most of it having melted to the bottom anyway, she let her eyes follow oliver as he moved towards the fridge, listening for his options. a bit of a smirk tugged at her lips when he mentioned the sandwich, laughing a bit into her mug. raising it up to her lips, she took a tester sip to make sure it wasn't still gross tasting, and then took an actual mouthful of the hot liquid. "sounds perfect, then. i get to watch you wipe your ass out on waves, and then i get to watch your ass make me some food," smirking playfully through her words, she let her eyes roam his body much like he had done to her, slowly letting them come to rest back onto his face. "a chick could get used to this kinda treatment." almost coyishly, she continued to smirk at him over her mug until she was ready for another sip, in which she swallowed two mouthfuls. her eagerness to get on the water was starting to spike now that she was here, and the smell of the water was already implanted in her nostrils. "i am serious about that drowning thing, though. i don't wanna become shark bait. these-" she lifted her left hand off her mug (leaving her right to hold onto it still, of course), and pointed to the tattoo on her left thigh, "-were way too expensive to become shark bait."
walking over to him, she took his coffee from his hands and carried it in her free hand. naturally, she did this without asking or letting him know what her plan was, but selene was sure he was used to her forwardness by now. "grab my board? i've got the coffees under control, obviously." giving him a smile, she turned on her heels towards the patio doors that lead outside to his backyard. setting his drink down long enough to get the door open, she slipped out onto the patio, only to put his drink down again. only, this time, she placed hers down with it, freeing her hands in order to pull her tee shirt off. now, the way she took her shirt off wasn't something she usually did at a normal beach unless she was trying to win over some gazes, but selene loved pushing people's buttons. and oliver's buttons were just as good to push as anyone else's.
after slowly removing her shirt, having used both her hands to criss-cross and lift it over her head, she fixed her sunglasses and tossed the shirt over the back of one of the patio chairs. selene acted casual about it, like she normally did, and turned to glance towards oliver with a bit of an eager smirk. "the water looks really good, feisty. think you can handle it, big boy?" [atrb=style, background-color: 202020;]boobs!? where!?

at her comment, oliver just smirked. he would have loved to have that kind of morning workout with her, but he chose not to voice it. even though they flirted like no other, oliver did have to keep some of his retorts to himself. otherwise, he was going to find himself grabbing her and pulling her into a kiss. despite their friendly jokes, oliver wasn't quite sure if that's what she wanted. it left a strange grey area in their relationship that he had never had to deal with before. he was never quite sure where the line was and sometimes, it was best just to keep his mouth shut. "me, using the same line on more than one girl? of course not," oliver gave her a sheepish grin and shrugged.
narrowing his eyes, oliver gave her a playful pout as he took a sip of his coffee. as she looked him up and down, oliver felt the need to stand up straight under her gaze. "this ass will look damn good doing it too," he rolled his hips and raised his eyebrow suggestively. it was impossible to keep a straight face while doing so though and oliver ended up taking a sip of coffee to hide his laughter. using his foot to close the fridge door, oliver walked over to the counter and leaned against it. "that's because i know how to treat the ladies." when sel indicated at her tattoos, he couldn't help but let his eyes trail over her body again. most of the time, oliver was used to women with cute butterfly tattoos. after a while, they got boring, repetitive. it was the reason that oliver respected sel's ink. that and he found it incredibly attractive. his eyes lingered on the tattoo for a few seconds, admiring the work. "and far too nice. i promise not to let you drown. besides, if i lose you, who's going to keep my ego in check?"
oliver gave her a suspicious look as she walked over and opened his mouth to protest when she took his cup. however, he was cut off when she asked him to grab her board. he scoffed slightly, but did was he was told. tucking the board under his arm, oliver did his best to watch where he was going. it was a good thing that oliver's parents had learned early on that it was best to keep fragile objects hidden. anything that could be easily broken had been cleared out once oliver had started surfing. still, oliver managed to make it out to the patio without hitting any furniture. once he was on the patio, he carefully let the board rest against the wooden railing. his own board was already out there and ready to go. grabbing it off the stand, he placed it standing up, and leaned against it. he turned back just in time to see sel taking her shirt off. needless to say, oliver was suddenly very distracted.
with how slow she was taking her shirt off, oliver knew she was doing it on purpose, but that didn't really bother him. his eyes were glued to tracing the curves of her body and he swallowed hard, trying to keep his mind from wandering too far. when she spoke, he barely heard her. glancing up to make eye contact, oliver tried to keep the surprise off his face. he managed a smile and grabbed his board, walking down the few steps and onto the beach. "it's not too late to back out," he glanced over his shoulder and laughed. jogging down to the edge of the water, oliver waded in, until he was about waist deep. it felt great to be back in the water after so long and he let out a victorious cry. turning back to look at sel, he grabbed the leash off the surfboard and attached it to his ankle. "come on sel, keep up!"

"maybe i should start looking for a replacement, just in case i get eaten one day."
after they'd made it outside, and she had looked at him after getting rid of her shirt, she couldn't help but let her smirk grow a little wider from his reaction. normally, selene wasn't this much of a tease, but there were too many opportunities to be one with oliver around. plus, she'd never seen him break down before because of a woman, and he was a little eager to see if he had a breaking point or not. "back out? fuck that." laughing, she turned her attention back to the table, pulling her back off her shoulder (having somehow manoeuvred her shirt off easily with it on), she rested it on top of the table and opened the largest compartment to pull out her towel. draping it over the side of the deck, she smirked widely as she watched oliver race towards the water, his eagerness and excitement clear as day with his speed. shaking her head at his encouraging call, she kicked her shoes off and started to wiggle out of her shorts.
tossing her shorts onto the same chair that held her shirt, she grabbed her board and tucked it underneath her right arm against her side. before she took off down the stairs, however, she tossed her sunglasses onto the table, having lost way too many pairs of glasses while surfing. with those out of the way, she padded down the steps and welcomed the hot sand between her toes with a large smile. in no time, she was crashing into the water eagerly attaching her surf board to her ankle once she had reached oliver's depth into the water. playfully, she skidded her arm across the water, sending a spashed wave at oliver. with him distracted, she pulled herself up onto her board, hugging her thighs against the sides to keep herself steady. using her hands, she paddled forward more, her eyes already concentrating on which wave they should start out with.
"so, tell me," she started, glancing over towards oliver once she had decided on a spot to wait in the water, using her feet to keep her as stable as possible. "you get any cute girls for your surfing sessions anymore?" grinning, she glanced back forward again, waiting to hear his response. it wasn't that she was jealous, or anything stupid like that, but she was curious if oli paid much attention to the beginners that sought him out for lessons. "think any of them would be interested in a threesome?" she asked seemingly out of no where, arching her eyebrow as her eyes cast back towards him. the smile on her face could only be described as suggestive, and the slow lick her tongue ran along her bottom lip only added to the seductive gaze in her eyes. at the slight mockery, oliver raised his eyebrows and pretended to be offended. he put his hand on his chest and gasped sharply. "selene hathaway, are you making fun of me?" oliver pouted and turned his nose up. "i am shocked and offended." his voice lacked any conviction though and unable to keep a straight face, he started laughing a moment later. "please, i'll never be able to find a replacement for you. not with my charming looks and soothing voice," oliver grinned and rolled his eyes. it was difficult for him to shake the image of sel taking her clothes off and it was part of the reason he was so excited to get out into the water. he was hoping that surfing would distract him. well, at least it would work for a bit.
once in the water, oliver took advantage of the short time he had alone. as sel was making her way into the water, he sat on his board and just stared out into the distance. there were times when oliver considered moving, but he just didn't think he could find somewhere that he loved as much as hometown. the time oliver spent waiting for sel to join him in the water, the motion of the waves had lulled him into a slight daydream. he probably could have spent hours just sitting on his board and staring off. luckily for him, sel was there to snap him out of it. the wave of water only him in the back, but it managed to give him quite the startle. in his hurry to turn around, oliver nearly tipped himself over on the board. with a surprised yelp, he barely kept his hold on his board. "hey, rude!" with a laugh, oliver covered his face and sent a wave of water back at her.
he had just made himself comfortable and started searching for a good wave when sel spoke up. arching his eyebrow, oliver glanced over at her. it was a strange question, but he didn't think much of it. after all, sel didn't seem like the jealous type or the type to even care who he was sleeping with. "of course. summer is always a busy time of the year for me. they usually suck at surfing, but they keep the bed warm," he smirked and leaned to kick his foot out, lightly pushing her board. "if you're ever interested, there's some pretty good looking guys. just take your shirt off like that and they'll be wrapped around your finger." with a slight grin, he turned back to search for a wave. nothing could have prepared him for sel's next question. generally, oliver had a good comeback for just about everything, but even he was speechless.
oliver could only stare blankly at sel. his mind had already taken off in a different direction and he couldn't formulate a response to save his life. the look on her face only set his imagination running wild. it took him a good few seconds before he realized that he hadn't said anything. shaking his head, oliver struggled to find the right words. "three...so-what?" he was embarrassed by his inability to speak, but it was too late to pretend like it hadn't happened. still, she had peaked his curiosity and he couldn't help but blurt out his interest. "are you interested?" oliver had tried to seem nonchalant about it, but the disbelief in his voice didn't really work for him.
his reaction may not have been a big deal, but for oliver it was. women never had this effect on him. the last time oliver had been speechless around a woman was when he was in college. he knew sel had always been a weak spot for him, but never like this. quite honestly, oliver didn't know how to deal with it. in a slight moment of panic, he pointed out to the distance. "come on! let's not sit here all day," oliver grinned and began paddling out.

"shut uppp, you like it." a laugh escaped when he retaliated, however, and she did her best to shield herself from the water by turning her head away and holding up her arms. it did nothing to stop the water, obviously, but at least it was mainly her arms that had gotten the cold spray.
a widely amused smirk pulled at the corner of her lips when he nudged her board, and tried to bait her with the thought of shirtless guys in board shorts. "right. because guys love going after girls who can show them up, and prove that they're just making asses of themselves." laughing, she shook her head a bit modestly. "nah, i'd rather stick to the guys that don't try and show me up, only to have it backfire on them. oh, and by the way oli," she paused, leaning in a bit to him to lower her voice a bit, as though it was a secret. "i don't need to take my clothes off to have guys wrapped around my finger. but thanks for the hint." a wide, playful smirk completely too over her lips as she straightened. nine times out of ten, all selene had to do was go to work and she'd be getting hit on by every guy who walked in there, thinking he was the next tony hawk.
his lack of immediate response to her threesome question had her instantly aware that she had, finally, found something to make him speechless with. in all the years that they'd known each other, he'd always been ready to hear whatever she was going to say, even if he'd never heard it before. but she supposed the threesome question had completely taken him off guard, and now he was trying to either find a way to deal with his recent knowledge, or try to formulate a response without sounding a little.. distracted. a laugh erupted when he stuttered over his question about the initial word she'd said, and she glanced back over at him, eyebrow raised with curiosity. she'd never seen him like this, in this light, so it was more than interesting to see the little bit of fluster forming before her. and she used to think that oliver was so cool and collected under any situation. ".. maybe," she slowly answered him, loving his apparent interest. "but only if i get to play, too. watching's nice, and all, but it only does so much after a while."
at his gesture towards the horizon, her smirk turned playful again, and selene followed suit behind him, paddling her hands and using her lower legs in order to keep up with his strokes. she didn't want to make him sweat too much, simply because if she kept filling his head with all these ideas about her, she might have to actually start acting on them. or, at least, that's what she'd tell herself to justify the fact that she might want oliver in a.. more than friends way. it was a little hard to keep that from her train of thought, especially in their surfing sessions together; seeing him half naked, and generally always soaked, didn't do a whole lot of good for her repressed sexually tension for her old friend. but you couldn't just.. bring up a topic like that to someone you've known for most of your entire life. there were ways to deal with those types of situations with people, and to be honest, selene wasn't the best with normal human interactions. for someone who took what she wanted whenever she pleased, oliver was completely new territory- the only guy she'd ever been around this long, and hadn't even made a move for a kiss, let alone anything else. a very, very big rarity for her.
one of the upcoming waves seemed to be growing speed and height, catching selene's attention instantly. at first, she did nothing but continue her paddle, watching it intently. as soon as it started to curve over, she instantly sprang into speed, determined to catch it before oli did. her hands started to paddle quicker, taking turns in their strokes in order to carry her weight faster. she didn't bother looking over her shoulder to him, already knowing that he'd have followed her sudden rush without hesitation. it wasn't uncommon for selene to spark up a competition between them on the water, and nine times out of ten, it usually ended up without a winner because they'd both work themselves to the point where it just didn't matter anymore, as long as they made it back onto the surface without drowning of exhaustion.
when she was directly in the current's flow of the wave, selene laid down a bit better and started to get herself ready to stand. pushing her hands against the board near her shoulders, she lifted her upper body and swung her legs underneath herself, her eyes drilling a hole in the water in front of her. when the wave was nearly underneath her board, she started to pull herself into a crouch, making sure her feet were in the proper location. in a matter of seconds, the wave's flow had her board, and she leaned forward to gain speed, digging her toes into the board underneath her to keep a bit more balance when she started to take off. it wasn't easy to maneuver herself closer to the tunnel that was slowly being made, but she couldn't guarantee that she'd make it there before oliver did. like with her thoughts, he usually always found a way to slip past and butt himself in. as much as oliver didn't want to admit it, selene's ability to knock his ego around was part of the reason he was so attracted to her. most of the time, he was so used to things going his way, that it was actually refreshing to have someone make him work. quite honestly, oliver had never worked for anything in his life. there had never been any need for him to try. anything he wanted had been handed to him on a silver platter and smile. maybe that was the reason oliver liked sel; she was the first thing he had to work for. and sel was a challenge at that. it was also the reason oliver didn't want to break the barrier in their friendship. he had this awful tendency of chasing away the people that meant the most to him and sel meant something to him. oliver had convinced himself that as long as he didn't sleep with her, he could continue telling himself that he wasn't that close to her.
when sel laughed at his speechlessness, it was difficult for oliver to hide his embarrassment. oliver couldn't even remember the last time he had been laughed at and it only made it harder for him to form words. he couldn't even let himself make eye contact with sel while she gave her answer. despite the coolness of the water, oliver could feel the heat rising in his cheeks. seeing as how he'd never seen himself blush, oliver was desperate to keep sel from seeing. it was already hard enough to force out an response to her threesome question, he didn't even try thinking of anything to say to her. his head was already filled with too many thoughts and most of them were him fantasizing about sel. it wasn't the first time oliver had thought about sel like that, but he preferred to keep those thoughts confined to the times when he was alone. surfing and sex were the two things oliver wanted to keep separate and right now, sel was making that an incredibly difficult task for him.
oliver was far too eager to start surfing and hope that he could forget about his life for a while. in his rush to escape his thoughts, his first few paddles were sloppy and relatively ineffective. he was also too distracted to even see the wave that sel was already eyeing. it took a good second for him to realize that sel had suddenly darted past him. perhaps it was the fact that sel had managed to render him speechless, but oliver had this sudden drive to beat her to the wave. showing her up wasn't exactly going to solve his problems, but it was worth a try. the first rule oliver's dad had taught him when he first learned how to surf, was to never try to steal a wave. it was stupid and dangerous, but oliver needed to win so his pride would still be intact. the need to pass sel, gave oliver the focus he needed. once he managed to concentrate on his paddling, oliver's instincts started to take over. with a few quick, powerful strokes, he managed to catch up to sel. when he felt the wave's current take his board, he gripped the sides of his surfboard. in one smooth movement, he pushed himself off the board and swung his left foot forward.
even though sel was still ahead of him, oliver spotted a small window of opportunity to sneak past her. it was a reckless decision and almost immediately, he regretted it. today just wasn't his day. in his need to pass her, oliver had misjudged the wave. he had originally planned to go above and cut sel off, but as he turned, the wave took his board with more force than oliver could control. before he could even grasp what was happening, oliver's board shot out from underneath him. his back hit the water with enough force to knock the air out of his lungs. oliver had no time to recover from the fall. almost immediately, the wave crashed over him, forcing his body further into the depths of the ocean. he didn't even know what had happened to him. for a brief moment, his mind shut down and all oliver could feel was the water closing around him.
the surfboard was probably the only thing that kept him from drowning. his board floated to the surface first and the tug from the leash, jerked oliver back to reality. using his arms and legs, oliver propelled himself back up towards the surface. using his board as leverage, oliver pulled himself out of the water. immediately, he gasped for air. the rush of oxygen into his lungs was almost painful, but it was nothing compared to the thrill of the adrenaline coursing through his body. laughing, he glanced around, looking for sel. he had pretty much almost forgotten about the threesome incident. "don't even say anything," he yelled out. "i don't want to hear it." lying back on his board, he gave sel the finger, knowing full well she'd have something sarcastic to yell back. "you win this one, but don't let it get to your head!"

what she hadn't been expecting was oliver to come gliding past her. as soon as she saw him from the corner of her eye, her eyebrows raised in surprise, having sworn she'd had enough space between them to make the tunnel before he got close enough to reach her. she had looked at him just in time to see his board whip out from underneath his feet, and send him smashing down into the wave's current. instantly, concern washed through her, but she didn't want to wear it on her sleeve too obviously. pressing forward, she skimmed through the tunnel, trying to focus on the refreshing feel of the spray of the water against her face and body, rather than if oliver was unconscious, floating underneath his board somewhere.
the wave almost closed in on her, but selene crouched a bit more and leaned forward to gain a bit more speed. barely exiting to the smaller conjunction of the wave, she tilted her board up towards the top of the wave, much like oliver had accidentally managed his board to do. only she had planned to take the harsh landing, and had full intentions of getting wet. before she lifted off the top, she grabbing her surf board with both hands and shifted her weight, executing a back flip into the water off from the wave. she surfaced soon after submerging, her adrenaline completely sky-rocketing, and her face was all smiles. it wasn't until she'd climbed back on her board that she heard oliver and remembered his crash. without thinking, she started to paddle towards the sound of his voice, a reassured smile slowly coming to her lips when she saw him. sure, his voice had obviously sounded fine, but it wasn't until she saw that he wasn't harmed that she felt herself actually feel at ease again.
"awwwh, did oli-baby get hurt?" laughing, she shook her had in her midst of paddling, and fired a "i know exactly what you wished you could do with that finger!" at him at the sight of his middle finger being raised in her general direction. coming up to float beside him, she couldn't help but laugh again, glancing behind them at where the wave had been. "i'd say you hit her pretty hard, oli. trying too hard to impress me?" she asked with a playful wink, not giving him time to answer before she hooked her hands underneath the side of his board and wobbled it in hopes of tipping him back into the water. she'd never actually rough housed with him before, which was a little weird considering selene rough housed with all her guy friends, but right now seemed like the best time to introduce her skilful tactics in shoulder-fighting. only, instead of trying to knock another bimbo off some guy's shoulders, she'd be trying to keep oliver from throwing her around like a beach ball. oliver's parents used to joke that he had learned to swim even before he could walk. with work, oliver's father had rarely been home and so when he was, the two of them surfed. that's what they did. of course, oliver had spent a good year on the beach, practicing how to stand on his board and another two years, surfing in the shallows before his father would even let him paddle further out. the first time he did attempt a real wave though, oliver quickly found out why his mother had been so worried. there had been a moment of pure joy when he felt the current take his board, but a second later, oliver's small, fragile body had been crushed underneath the wave. for a moment, everything had been peaceful and for that brief moment, his world was perfect. however, it was only a moment, fleeting. the second his eyes opened, it ended and reality hit hard. there was an immediate need to breathe and the water was crushing as it rushed into his lungs.
just as he was about to pass out, oliver remembered his father pulling him out. as oliver laid on the beach, coughing up the vile saltwater from his lungs, his mother had screaming and crying in the background about how oliver shouldn't even have been out there. still, the second oliver could breathe again, he wanted to try again, and his parents had to literally drag him off the board. two weeks later, oliver was in the hospital with pneumonia. it was months before his parents would allow him to surf. now that he was older, wiping out wasn't as common, but he still felt the same. underneath the water, everything seemed so much more clear. he wanted to stay there for just a little longer, but oliver wasn't about to let himself drown. that was no way to impress a woman. the initial rush of air was painful, but it felt great. oliver laid down on his board, simply letting the motion of the waves take him. it was impossible to keep the grin off his face when sel paddled over though.
"screw you! i'll do what i want with this finger," he laughed, coughing slightly. "and i'm fine for your information." as oliver tried to sit up on his board, sel started tipping his board. already unbalanced, he rolled off and landed back in the water. instead of grabbing his board, oliver grabbed the nose of sel's and pulled himself up. he shook his head, purposely shaking water onto sel. "is it working? how impressed are you?" oliver raised his eyebrow suggestively and gave her an exaggerated wink. crossing his arms on her board, oliver rested his head on his arms and stared up at her. with his legs, he kicked to keep himself afloat, even though most of his body weight was resting on sel's board. as he looked up at her, there was a goofy smile on his face, the kind that he used to give his first crush when he was too shy to talk to her. if he didn't watch himself, oliver was going to end up doing something stupid...like kissing her.
before he could get too distracted by sel, oliver found a way to recover. "also, i'm going to get you back for that one. i've noticed you're surprisingly dry." he took a deep breath and pushed off her board, down into the water. oliver gripped both sides of her board and with a hard kick, he lodged his shoulder underneath her board. there wasn't much for him to leverage against, but oliver turned the board in hopes of flipping it. |

she couldn't deny her physical attraction to him no matter what she said to herself, and the fact that she found herself extremely attracted to his personality almost scared her. selene was used to having physical feelings for people, but anything that went beyond that, she usually tried to run away from. it was too real, and if she came to terms and finally accepted something like that, it could be taken away too easily. abandonment issues definitely ran through her blood, whether or not she knew it, and everything inside of her was telling her that if it wasn't sex, it shouldn't be anything. it wasn't like oliver was looking to settle down anyway; god only knew how many chicks he could pick up from his instructor job alone.
"oh baby," selene fake moaned out after he said he'd do what he wanted with his finger. grinning, she tried to hold her laughter in after that in order to hear him. when he resurfaced after she'd knocked him off his board, she grinned even larger, slowly settling down on her board so that her stomach was almost touching it. propping her chin up on either her palms, she leaned on her elbows and stared back at him, almost inches from his face. the only time she blinked was to flinch from the droplets of water he shook in her general direction, but those were easy to ignore after they clung to her skin. "oh, i'm extremely impressed. i can tell why everyone's so eager to get half naked lessons from you, now." she'd just been in the process of debating whether or not pushing her tits together was a good idea when he spoke again, and instantly, she tried to scramble back into a sitting position, easily being able to tell his motive.
unfortunately for her, her moving that quickly only aided in his attempt, and the board tipped enough to throw her into the water. she went under for a moment or so, but she was fully conscious of what she was doing, so opening her eyes and untangling her leg from the board's strap was easier than if she'd been off guard. coming up behind oliver underneath the water, hoping he hadn't seen her swimming underneath the bubbles the commotion had most likely caused, she raised up from the water and threw her arms around his neck, hoisting herself onto his back. with a laugh, she lifted her weight, moving her hands to dunk him underneath the water. somehow, in the midst of her dunking him, her legs had found their way around his chest, and once he resurfaced, they slid down to his waist. laughing, she looped her arms around his neck again, leaning her head over her right shoulder in order to see him. without even thinking about it, she pressed a kiss to his cheek, slowly pulling back to lean her head back on her arm.
"so what does oli want, now? to get his ass handed to him by another wave, or are you gonna make me that amazing meal, now?" as she waited for his answer, she remained stationed on his back, though she had let her arms go, and was using them to keep most of her weight from weighing him down. she wanted to fool around a bit, not drown him some more. of all the people oliver knew in carmel, selene was probably one of the only people he would identify as a friend. considering that most of the population of carmel knew to stay away from him, or were just too old to care, friends weren't exactly easy for oliver to come by. while he was very attracted to sel, there was something about having at least one friend that let him sleep better at night. they were so different, in respect to their upbringing, but they still got along. even though sel never let on, oliver knew she understood what it was like to be truly alone. and maybe, it was that aspect that had brought them together. after his parent's accident, oliver didn't really have anyone to turn to. his sister had understood the loss, but she had her own family to raise. she didn't need to grieve and take care of her younger brother. in a strange way, sel had been there for him, even if she didn't know it. whatever they had together, oliver wanted to keep it and seeing as how he couldn't keep a relationship for longer than a couple months at best, he tried to keep his hands off.
it was so very difficult though. the more they hung out, the more difficult it was for oliver to continue denying his attraction to her. he had even started noticing little things about her that he liked. from the way she bit her lip to the way she walked, oliver couldn't keep his eyes off her. a part of him wanted to settle down, raise a family, but oliver just wasn't ready to do that. the fact that the idea of settling down with sel had even crossed his mind, scared him senseless. still, when they were out on the water, oliver didn't have to worry about these things. at least, until sel started fake moaning. with the way sel was lying on the board, oliver had a great view when he resurfaced. he was glad the water was a bit on the colder side. luckily, she was only a few inches from him and oliver could only stare at her face. it was a little more noticeable when his eyes tried to wander, so he tried his best not to.
"it's the body. it keeps people from realizing i'm actually not great at surfing," he grinned and moved his hand off the board to run across his chest. even though sel tried to move away, oliver was glad that her attempts only aided him in pushing her off the board. he felt her weight slide off the board, but by the time he pushed himself out of the water and opened his eyes, oliver had lost track of where she'd gone. when he didn't see her, oliver immediately thought the worst. he was getting ready to dive down and find her, make sure he didn't drown her, when sel came up from behind him. oliver's surprised yelp was cut off by the sudden rush of saltwater into his mouth. one hand reached to hook under sel's leg while his other hand grabbed the edge of the sel's surfboard. pulling himself back up, he gasped for air and shook his head again. just as oliver turned to look at sel, she kissed his cheek.
if oliver turned any faster, he would have caught her lips with his and that took him by surprise. his instinct had told him to turn and pull her into a kiss. oliver barely managed to stop himself from doing so. trying to brush it off, oliver grinned and turned back. grasping the board better, he used it to hold his weight and sel's weight. "i dunno, i think i have a chance with the next wave," he grinned. "i'm starving though. i make food and we'll come back out later?" using his legs to keep him afloat, oliver turned to face sel, wrapping an arm around her waist. his other arm rested on the board, where most of his weight was. "come on, let's see what i have in the kitchen." with a sheepish grin, oliver shifted to grab his own board. grabbing her legs, he wiggled his way out of her grip and splashed water at her. "now we're even!"
before she could get him back though, oliver had already swung himself back onto his board and started paddling towards the shore. while the waves weren't as big, oliver managed to catch a small one and ride it close enough to shore where he could walk onto the beach. dragging his board, oliver pulled his ankle leash off and stuck his board into the sand. oliver wasn't too concerned about anyone stealing his board, seeing as how he and sel were the only ones that were currently allowed on the beach. turning back, oliver made sure that sel was following him. on the deck, there was a shower installed. oliver turned the handle and rinsed himself off, before grabbing his towel. he moved out of the spray of the water and dried himself off. letting the towel hang around his neck, oliver grabbed sel's towel and handed it to her. "are you going to make me cook an entire meal, or are you going to help me?"

when he said he thought he had it in him for another wave, selene's eyebrow arched, waiting for him to finish his thought. she knew that he could surf really fucking good - how else would he get an instructor job? - but she loved teasing him in any way she could. most of that was her small, slowly growing obsession with seeing if she could push his buttons, but if anyone asked, that wouldn't be the case. "i don't think you getting your energy back's gonna really change the outcome, but if you feel like trying it again after we eat, i guess i'll follow you out." grinning playfully, letting him know her small dry tone was just her joking around, she went to open her mouth to speak again when he started to shift. blinking, having no idea what was going on at first, her legs loosening to let him do whatever he was doing. she'd glanced down in the water to try and see, and when she looked back up, selene had started to tighten her legs back around his waist. but when she looked up, all she could see was oliver's blue eyes, and for some reason, it made her stiffen slightly. without realizing, she'd pulled herself right against him, and when she noticed, her lips parted to start apologizing before she mentally slapped herself in the face.
he spoke before she could think of anything to say, and she was more than relieved that he had started to shift in order to get free from her grasp, because she was still slightly stiff. once he'd splashed her, she shook out of it and forced a grin, still trying to wrap her head, and the weird swelling in her chest, around what had just happened. pulling herself onto her board, she slowly started to paddle after him, letting the current do most of the work, and occasionally dragged her hands into the smaller waves to try and rid her mind of her small enigma. she rode it all the way until the board touched the beginning of the shore, and after pulling herself up, she lifted her board and carried it next to where oliver had pegged his in the sand.
after it was sturdy, she walked up to the deck, not bothering to wait for oliver to be done before she slipped in behind him. once he'd stepped out of the way, she stepped underneath the water and closed her eyes, washing the salt water off. lifting her hands and pushing her hair back and out of her face, she slowly turned to see him, lifting her hand to twist the knob until the water stopped. stepping out of the shower, she took the towel from him and smiled in thanks, drying her face off first afterwards. "hey, that was your bribe, oli. you said food or something. you haven't come up with a "something" yet, so.." she said through a smirk, tying the towel around her waist after she was done drying off. it didn't take long for her to let out a small laugh, though, and she nodded her head. "yes, i'll help you cook. but only this time, and just because i feel bad; that wipe out looked pretty rough."
moving around him to grab her bag, she opened it up and pulled out a pair of zombie designed flip flops that had come with her bathing suit. the only reason why she had brought them was for after swimming when they went back inside. she didn't like being barefoot in a house, but she'd feel bad if she scuffed up his floor with her skate shoes. plus, it was easier to wear flip flops when you were going to be back in the water sooner or later. "what're we gonna make, anyway? i want somethin' fancy." glancing over her shoulder as she raised her hands to unlace the top straps of her bikini from around her neck, she arched a curious brow towards oliver. "you got some fancy ice cream and alcohol for after our next swim, right?" once the tie was undone, she grabbed the material of her bikini tube top and lifted it over her head. she knew that with how she had her back to him, he wouldn't see anything other than a tiny little bit on the sides, so she didn't have any reason to attempt to hide herself. not that she really thought she'd try, either. grabbing her cropped tee shirt, she pulled it over her head, hanging the bikini on the railing to try a little while they cooked and ate.
slipping into her flip flops, she pulled her towel off her waist and started to towel dry her hair the best she could. luckily with it being this short, it didn't take long to fully dry. not that she needed to care about her appearance around oliver or anything, but she really wanted to impress him any way she could. i won't run away this time, 'till you show me what this life is for. round and round, i'm not going to let you change my mind, 'till you show me what this life is for. we are afflicted by fiction, building a case for eviction, circling.
after spending two days without surfing, there was no way that oliver was going to stay out of the water for very long. one wave and one subsequent wipeout was hardly enough to satisfy his need. still, he wasn't about to let sel starve and he was getting pretty hungry himself, so it was excusable. besides, he actually liked spending time with sel out of the water. she was interesting and exciting, which was far more than he could say for most of the people he met. in general, people were boring. if it had been anyone else, oliver probably would have just ignored them. as he pulled away from her and made his way back to shower, oliver tried his best not to think about how he had been so close to her. of course, he had felt her body stiffen against his. before he could think anything about it, oliver had practically pushed her away. it wasn't exactly graceful and probably a bit crude, but he was sure that sel could forgive him for it.
as oliver stood under the shower with his mouth slightly open and pushed his hands through his hair. even with his eyes closed, he could feel sel's presence behind him. rinsing his mouth, oliver spit the freshwater out to the side and stepped out from under the water. it didn't usually didn't take him long to towel dry himself, but he was too distracted with watching sel. his hair was still dripping wet when she turned the water off. luckily, handing her the towel was an instinctive move, so oliver didn't spend too much thought. once sel spoke, oliver grinned and pulled the towel over his head. "i was just trying to get you to come over, i didn't think you'd take it so literally," he laughed softly and finished drying himself off. wrapping the towel around his waist, oliver grabbed his shirt and pulled it over his head. the grey v-neck was light, but with the slight breeze, it would keep him from getting too cold. "aw, are you taking pity on poor oliver?" he stuck his lower lip out. "my charm is starting to get to you sel."
walking back into the house, oliver padded into the kitchen and began opening cabinets. his search slowly moved towards the fridge and with a dramatic flourish, he pulled the door open. "something fancy...and i was thinking burgers," raising his eyebrows, oliver glanced at sel over the door. "fancy burgers?" from just the quick glance, it didn't register at first that sel was taking off her top. so when she asked about ice cream, oliver was too busy looking through his freezer to even notice. "i have plenty of alcohol, but you're going to have to define your meaning of fancy," he laughed and closed the door. this time, when he spotted sel, oliver was well aware of what she was doing. she was just about to pull the tube top off and oliver couldn't take his eyes off her. with her back to him, oliver couldn't see anything, but he had spent enough time thinking about it. surely his imagination couldn't be that far off. still, just the fact that oliver had to use his imagination was incredibly frustrating.
when she turned back around, oliver inhaled sharply and pretended like he was still digging through the fridge. in his hurry, he nearly smacked his head against the door and even the cold air from the fridge couldn't stop the heat rising in his cheeks. with his head down, he started pulling out the ingredients to make burgers and placing them onto the island. "we could make them fancy with a bottle of wine," oliver glanced towards the wine cooler and grinned. "i'll get the grill started, you pick a bottle?"
